My suggestion is to charge for a longer period of time or go and get a new battery.

I travel a lot and leave my cars sitting for weeks at a time. After a particularly painful epsiode, --similar to what you described, one of the forum members steered me toward a Battery Tender. It comes with an inline plug you can tie-wrap in the engine compartment for hassle-free, quick connections. Now all of my cars are placed on "life support" whenever I'm gone, and I have yet to experience any more problems.
