: Do Corvette rims fit the XLR?
KNIGHTRIDER72 04-04-2009, 07:01 PM I am thinking about purchasing the stock wheels off a base C6 vette (19x10 rear & 18x8 1/2 front). Also wondreing if I will need vette lug nuts or if the XLRs will work? If the rims do work what size tires would you reccomend to stay relative to the original set up?
XLR I FL 04-06-2009, 11:28 AM KNIGHTRIDER72
The suggestion I would make is to go up on the Discount tire and the Tire Discount Web sites and see what rim sizes fit the XLR before you spend any money on Corvette rims.
They willl show you the offsets and the sizes that work--in thier experience along the with tire size(s) as well.
Discount Tire 04-07-2009, 04:26 PM The front wheels should work but the 10" rears have a super high offset which won't work for the XLR.
XLR I FL 04-08-2009, 01:56 PM See that's what I am talking about......Prompt and accurate Supporting Vendor responses.
Any known issues with the brake rotors???

Caliper clearance shouldn't be an issue.
jmoody66 04-19-2009, 03:19 AM Ive been trying to get some wheels for about 2 or 3 weeks through my local discount tire. Im very disappointed in the service. I recently bought tires for my Z06 at a cost close to 1700 and then tires for my wifes beetle for something like 500 yet I want to get wheels for the XLR and the ol boy says let him look and see if he can find something.....I guess hes still looking even though I stopped in again to see his progress. I think I have been blown off at this point. Ive never been treated like that before and Ive done allot of business with discount.
XLR I FL 04-20-2009, 11:34 AM Discount Tire is an online sponsor of this site.
My suggestion is to go online and let them know:
1. What you want in the way of product
2. Where you were doing business.
3. Who you were doing busness with along with the issues you have had.
There are several advantages one of which is that you will get a XLR Forum online customer dicount that you wouldn't otherwise receive. Another is that I think your issues will be solved REAL QUICK!!
Please let us know how it comes out.
Regards

I do apologize for the break down in communication with your local store. We certainly value your business and the lack of response is certainy not how we should be taking care of our customers.
As you know, wheel fitment on the XLR is tough just like the Corvette. We currently do not offer a huge selection for your application. What year and model XLR do you have? I can send you a link with what we have to offer you through mail order. If we offer something you like, your local store can get it for you.
You local store maybe trying to find more options through one of their local distributors.
Thank you for your continued patience and support! I look forward to your response.

Hey look me up via phone 972-740-5698 on the Discount system. I want the Akuza Belles as shown here http://superbuytires.com/Akuza/Belle/ or a very simliar wheel with tires in 20 inch diameters and yes of course I would love to have a fat lip. Can you make it happen and get me into contact with the store I bought my Michelin PS2"s from?

Discount Tire Direct operates as an separate business from the local Discount Tire stores so I can not access your account information. We currently work on a different point of sale system. The Akuza wheel you are looking at (761) was never drilled in the 5-120.65 bolt pattern so it will not work on your application. What year and model XLR do you have? What size wheels were you interested in? We currently do not offer any wheels that look like the Belle (761).

Both superbuytires and Discount said that wheel fits. Anyway mines an 05 and I want 20 inch wheels with as deep a lip/wide a tire as I can fit. I dont care about going to the fancy 3 pc forged setups because weight is not an issue at all for me. I want a wheel similar to those Belles, chrome, 20" with tires and I dont want to pay 3 or 4K for them cuz this is just a secondary car I use when the Vette is just too much. Lemme know.

I actually called Akuza and they said they do not produce the Belle (761) in the 5-120.65 (5-4.75) bolt pattern. Which model XLR do you have? I need this information to give you accurate information. Do you have the XLR-V model?

Anyway let me know what u come up with.

You are correct about the V models not being introduced until 06 :yesnod
I did a search of my inventory and it looks like the only 2 wheesl we have that should work are the Cray Scorpion and Cray Manta. I'm sure you are familiar with this wheel line-up as it was designed for the Vette. The 20x9 50ET would be the best deimensions to run. Here's a link with more details...

Cray Wheel Options (http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findWheelsBySize.do?wd=20&bp=5-120.65*5-4.75*5-120.6&rw=9)
I'll touch base with my fitment department as well just to double check fitment and to see if there are any other wheel options we may have to offer.
Thank you for your patience.

Yes I am familiar with the Crays. The chrome one is ok. Is that as close as we can get to the Belles without going custom?

I again contacted Akuza just to make sure the Belle (761) was not drilled in the 5-120.65 PCd and they confirmed that it is not. I contacted our fitment department and the only wheels we have to offer you in the 20" size is the Cray line-up. So without going custom, this is the best we have to offer you at this time.
I really appreciate your patience.

Matt,
Call it a dumb question but I have to ask. Why couldnt a machine shop make a custom adapter and even weld it on and ensure its true? I cant believe we are so limited in choices.....Ive got guido types out there saying I will make you one for 1k per wheel....which to me is a bit of stupid money especially in uncertain economical times.

Matt,
How about a Verde Kaos Hyper Dark with machined lip. Love the wheel and one of the members on this forum has the exact wheel on the exact car that I have.

It's possible but the only people I would trust to do it would be the wheel manufacturer themself. I wouldn't take it to any old shop. I have heard of wheel companies "inserting" and redrilling wheels. I have also heard of some wheel companies, i.e. Giovanna, bringing in blank wheels and drilling them for a custom bolt pattern and offset. This usually doesn't cost much more than $40.00 extra per wheel.

I contacted Verde and they said they don't offer anything for the XLR. They make a 5x120 but that is not safe to put on a vehicle with a 5x120.65 bolt pattern.

Ok so help me because I dont know jack about wheels. There is a member here that has these wheels on his car, I sent him a PM but have yet to hear from him. Exactly how would the .65 kill it? Im almost ready to give up so bear with me as I learn that I probably just need to leave it be.

You can get a 5-120 drilled wheel to fit on your 5-120.65 bolt pattern but this not recommended as it causes unnecessary strain/pressure on the studs which can cause them to snap. At high speed, I wouldn't want my studs breaking off.

So then Im familiar with studs...well Im one but I mean on the cars...LOL
Might the solution be similar to my recent Vette build....go with ARP studs or at least find a way better grade stud that would work? If you can get me the current stud specs I will contact ARP and see if we can make this happen.

Our system does not list the stud size but I'm sure your local dealership has it. Although common practice, Discount Tire Co. does not recommend you install a wheel on your vehicle that doesn't match the PCD.

This is exactly why I dont go to Discount auto. they are good for tires guys ,but they dont know about rims and specific bolt pattern and fitment again I have fix many of their mistake not due to their sales rep because they just follow their computer and 80% of the time its wrong ( the verde wheel will work just fine in the car) and there is a lot of wheels that will work for that car. Its not a difficult car to dress with wheels.
Again guys I will be more than happy to help find the right wheel, and I am not a distributor or a vendor looking for business. I just want to help members here find a nice, and good looking wheel, in my opinion the VERDE wheel with all the respect its not a good looking wheel for such of car remember its an XLR. If your questioning if I know what I am talking about just ask some questions I use to work for a couple big distributor like ATD and Butler tire and I dont need a computer to find out if it works or not!!!!

Welcome to the XLR Forum.
I am sure you do know what you are tlaking about regarding tire and wheels. But in the case of Discount tire and the dealers theyare not going to go against established safety and wheel recommendations due of course to legal exposure.
As I am sure you would agree, members are free to try whatever they would like....and some have only to regret what they did and have to spend more money on another product. so research is the key....
Just saying....
