Just wanted to know if anyone tracks or plans to track their vehicles? Not much fun going to a track day and not have a another like vehicle there.

Bassman:

I don't know of anyone who has/is racing thier XLR or XLR-V.

Some have "tested" theirs on the highway but no real racing except one person who made an outlaw car out of a wrecked one.

Hi!

I have a 2006 V that I would love to have some fun with on a track. Cost is a consideration.:banghead.

This spring "Year One" held a car show at Road Atlanta. They would let 6 - 7cars on the track at one time with a pace car in the lead. The speed was kept at appoximately 80 miles an hour. They would let you do 3 laps at a time. Lucky for me, I was the last car. As we made the back right angle turn to get into the straight, I would stop and wait for the pack to get out of sight. Then I'd wait for a few more seconds and nail it (with the top down:rolleyes). I could get up to about 130mph before having to back off and hit the brakes lest I run up the tail pipe of the car in front of me. :thumbs

After the third try at this speed run, I was getting concerned about the brakes. They just didn't give me a lot of confidence. That mushy feedback was also worrisome. That led to a brake upgrade so I could do a track day without fear. That upgrade story is a long one but i wound up with Baer 6P calipers on the front with larger rotors front and rear and Hawk pads. (Side benefit is I don't get near the brake dust that I used to get.)

I also shelled out some bucks for an upgraded larger capacity master cylinder(Going to 6 pistons versus the factory 2 pistons uses a lot more fluid. That led to a lower pedal) with a proportion valve for front to rear adjustments.

Next, I want to add a larger sway bar.

Anyway, depending on the cost, count me in as I am well on my way to having the car "right"

I showed up at a local autocross and they didn't know how to class the car as it wasn't listed in the copy of the SCCA rules they had. So they wouldn't let me run.

Do you have pics of your new brake set up... I'm exploring options right now as I agree that the stock set up is a bit "whimpy".

Which master cylinder did you upgrade to?

Thanks!

Did you look at the upgraded brake option at D3???

Yes, I currently speaking with them... its pretty pricey... (I've actually bought a lot of stuff from them... wheels, headers, intake, sway bars, etc...)

Additionally, their kit doesn't talk about upgrading the cylinder... which is why I asked about it.

I am wondering if a high performance brake fluid would improve that stock systems we have.

I agree. I have stock brakes and they feel kinda spongy. Also, regarding performance mods for track, Lingenfelter Perf. sells a 176 degree thermostat. I installed it in my car and it really helps keep temps down longer. If you order though your going to have to order a new gasket from someone else, The one Lingenfelter ships is the wrong one.

Interesting... I may consider this... did you get the ECM reprogrammed for this mod? maybe chance the fan settings?

Nope. Just installed it. I plan on the ECM reflash soon, but the TSTAT required no mods.

My understanding is that when you change the thermostat you need to get the ECM reprogrammed to have the fans kick in earlier than the stock 190deg setting... so I'm guessing if you put in a new 176deg unit, the fans need to kick in at 176deg otherwise you're not getting much gain from the changed part.

Regardless, I think I'll do this - quick swap, $20... I can get the ECM reprogrammed next week...

thanks for the tip!

Correct! My fans DO kick in at 190. I do need the program for full benefit (getting that done soon). However, my cooling circuit opens sooner, and stays open longer. My car does reach 200 deg., it just takes longer and cools quicker. NOTE!!! GET THE GASKET FROM CADILLAC. THE ONE SHIPPED IS THE WRONG ONE.

Hi! I just got your question about the master cylinder. I don't check my Email that often

I'll have to check on the master cylinder. It was installed by MTI racing in Marietta, GA. Just google "MTI Racing Marietta". They installed the same cylinder as they use on their racing Corvettes/ In fact, it may be better that you chat with them direct. Just mention you heard about them from me and that they had installed one on my car.
I had a deer run out in front of me the other day and just knew i couldn't stop in time and then the brakes really took hold and i stopped short of hitting the deer by about 1 foot. The costs involved with the brake upgrade all faded into insignificance in that moment'

At the time of the change they did put in a brake fluid that was meant for high temperature. Even at that they suggest bleeding the brakes after severe prolonged use. (As in racing)

I've never tried to attach picture to this site. I'll have to figure out how to do that.
