Hello.
Just purchased 4 new Goodyear tires for my 05 XLR. The car came new with Michelin runflat tires. I was in at the Cad dealership and noticed the new 08's came with Goodyears. The TPC code was the same for both brands (1236ms). I went to Discount Tire as they advertise here and a store was close by. I requested prices based on the correct size, runflat (EMT for Goodyears) and TPC1236ms. The price quoted was great so I ordered a set. The shop called back later to say the quote was for 235/50 zr18 in EMT but not for TPC1236ms. Of course the price was higher for those. The moral of the story: Be sure to request the correct TPC for the XLR. It is possible to order 235/50zr18's without runflat capability, with it and then with the correct TPC. If anyone out there is unfamiliar with TPC codes, GM designs tire performance specs as part of the total car design. Buying tires without the correct TPC may cause the car to underperform. I'm not into extreme driving or tire testing so I bought what GM designed.
Oh, the price? Ok hold on to your hat:
$1470.00
That included the tires $1200.
New valve stems for the TPMS.
A tire replacement guarantee. Not mileage prorated, the life of the tire.
Mounting and balancing. Free rotation, etc. Eric:seeya

The Michelin ZP Extended Mobility that was on the 04/06 were a fantastic soft rubber tire that absorbed a lot of road imperfections. In 2007 we went to the Goodyear tires because of contract issues with Michelin when we started to ship XLRs to other countries.

The Goodyears are a more agressive tire and actually work better with the more agressive Magnetic Ride Control and suspension improvements since 07.

Eric,
I ditched the runflats long ago for a set of 235 Michelin Pilots. As far as
getting a flat....I carry two cans of fix a flat and I have roadside assistance. Knock on wood, I haven't had a problem.:cheers
