Not 2 tenths of a mile from my house I lightly hit my neighbors car as he rounded the corner. I'm taking the blame but the kid did take the turn a bit tight and forgot about turn signals and speed limits.

Damage from the 3mph impact was limited to my front bumper cover, and the upper and lower chrome grilles on my 2006 XLR-V.

Wondering if the new style 2009 front end would be a direct replacement that insurance will cover?

Also wondering where I might order genuine new Cadillac parts at a discount.

The body shop does great work but very expensive. I am hoping to negotiate some of the parts prices or supply my own to save a few bucks.

Since you are needing to replace your front cover and possibly both grilles, it might work out. But give me a day and I will have an exact answer for you.

Every insurance company is different on their guidelines for paying for replacement parts that were not made for the correct vehicle. Many times, they will pay for the correct parts to be replaced, and you may have to pay the extra if any.

For genuine GM parts at a big discount, try gmpartsdirect.com. I've bought plenty of parts through them (an East coast GM dealership) with no problems. Their online catalog will help you to identify what parts you might need.

Good luck!

I am real sorry about your fender bender (dent). But you seem to have developed a real interesting plan to make things right.

I too like the 2009 grill and front spoiler look and think it will look great if you can work out the details to your satisfaction.

ccclarke has a good idea. I wish I had at least shopped them when I did my brake and rotor job. At least you will have another reference point for cost.

Please keep us informed about the progress of you project.

The 2009 Front end will not bolt up correctly to the frame without various modifications. When they changed the fascia for 2009, many of the attachment points were also changed. Many areas where hoses and wiring were also routed were changed for 2009. Even if you were able to have your insurance company pick up some of the costs of the upgrade, I would not recommend trying to install the 09 fascia.

Thanks Alan for the input. I figured the upgrade woudn't be a direct bolt on but had to ask. I also figured some buyers might not want a change from the stock year look. I'm thinking about putting the car up for sale sometime and don't want to hurt it's resale or appeal.
