A shame, GM repeated all the same mistakes with the XLR they did with ALLANTE. A really liked the XLR-V but lack of color choice, bigger than SL & Jaguar price turned me off. Consumer Reports summed up the XLR best. " SL Wannabe that does not measure up to cars in this class ".

Guess I better buy me one soon then..... love the look... driven one recently and really like the feel. Considering buying an 08 or 09.

Colors a bit limited, I agree, but the styling is unique, eye catching....wife loves it too!

Allante91:

The XLR may or may not go away but as BlackBeauty posted it is truly a unique car AND so is the Allante which I happen to like very much also.

I have lot's of friends with the 500SL's and 600 Sls and they like the XLR better I guess because it is unique in its styling and other features.

It's fun to pull up to our gatherings and you see several of the 500's parked there in as you mentioned either Black, Silver or a few Reds. I have a Xenon Blue XLR.

XLR MARKETING STRATEGY: Now I am not sure what the strategy is now but in the beining before the first XLR was built the charman of GM stated that the car was never intended to compete head to head with any of the others--Mercedes, Jaguar, Lexus--etc.

GM's Strategic Objective was to build a "few of the best designed, engineered and quality oriented cars. Which in many respects they have accomplished.

the last real XLR Commercial I saw was for the 2006 XLR-V when it was shot out of the tunnel. Now i agrree that some more advertising would be nice but...I am not calling the shots.

Don't you stilll get approached and asked about the car occasionally?? I do and mine is a 2004.

I like it because it is unique and hope that it stays around.

Regards

Jerry

I agree, here in So Cal SL 500's are as common as (insert favorite common item here), the XLR is unique. I drove the XLR to work the other day and the President who is fairly jaded by high end cars saw it and came in exclaiming "XLR! Who drives an XLR?" He knew it was me, me being the resident car nut, and where and how I was parked. He proceeded to me about there being only one XLR in his neighborhood, and what a neat car it was. He drives a Jaguar XKR, and has a few restored old Jags so that was a compliment. His brother is VP of the company and drives one the SL's. Of course then he wondered aloud how much was he paying me.

Yea that's what I'm talking about!!! You can get a crowd going without any problem whatsoever.

It is intersting right now to also see that any of the XLR "competitors" are depreciating as much or more than ours are. the market is just plain off!!

So "deals" are now in the customers favor!!! Especially if you have cash to go with your car.

I would not really worry about CR....no real car person takes that rag seriously.
