rlcharet 10-13-2008, 01:20 PM I have a 2006 XLR, purchased 11/06, and it has 14,000 miles on it. I want to buy an extended warranty. I know Cadillac Major Guard has been recommended on this site.
My dealer has offered me GMPP. $0 deductible, 84/56, for $4,250. Should I accept it? How does it differ from Major Guard? I want full coverage, including the top.
What should I buy, and how much should I pay?
I'd appreciate any advice.
Thank you, Bob Charet

Bob there is a comparison chart that shows the different Cadillac Warranties and what they do and do not cover in one of the posts in this section.
It should answer most if not all of your questions.
I am thinking we may just need another poll to show what the members extended warranty preferences are.

Black Pontiac- Cadillac offers the following:
Used vehicles over 12 months old "AND" from 0 miles on the odometer (from brand new) but less than 24,000 miles on the odometer AND still within the 3yr/36,000 miles manufactures warranty.
$0 deductible, 84/56, for $3450 with NO SALES TAX if you live outside of PA. (Ironically, the "full retail price" is listed as $3925) I bought mine from them, and have had my car serviced at my Cadillac dealer with the GMPP plan with no problems. Some may advocate buying the GMPP from the servicing (or selling) dealer, but I get the same service and saved $$$$$!
You can also tell your dealer what you've learned; maybe they'll match the price. This is reportedly a HUGE mark up item! My delaler actually offered it to me for $100 BELOW Black's price, but at 7.75% sales tax here in Ohio it was a no-brainer. Yeah, I'm cheap!
Please feel free to PM me if you have more questions. And SHOP AROUND!!
b_pappy 10-13-2008, 07:54 PM Ken Fichner in Montana is another dealer known for low prices on the GMPP warranty, Major Guard is GMPP. I used their (Fichner) price and Rydell matched it no problem. I don't want to overpay, but I would rather support my local dealer. That was on my Chevy, but luckily they also have a Cadillac dealer here in the Valley.

aerobat3 10-23-2008, 04:08 PM My dealer beat Black's price easily, with no sales tax, and no fee which black charges if you want to put it on a credit card. I don't recall exactly but i believe I paid about $2670 in Sept for my 05 for 84 mos, 56k miles, with $100 deductible. I posted the details at the time. it sounds like you are about to pay too much, although i dont know about the price changes in oct. from everything i've read over the last year or two, Major Guard is the only way to go and it DOES cover the mechanical top. (top exclusions in the fine print refer to cars with rag tops). BTW, you pay a very significant premium for $0 deductible, it is unlikely that you would use the service enough to make it up, but that's a personal choice.

Thanks rob.
I think your point and the current economy show that "Extended Warranty Shoppers" need to do thier homework before buying.
There may be better and better deals to be had over the next few months.
