: There May Still be Hope!!!
XLR_Lover 10-08-2008, 07:39 AM This article is, of course, subject to change, but there seems to be a glimmer of hope that our XLR will live to see a model make-over!

Thaks for the article!!! I would hope that they move the XLR redesign to 2010 not 2012. But I guess we don't have say.
ebferro 10-08-2008, 04:57 PM Personally, and this is obviously just my two cents, I don't think the XLR will continue. There was a post on a Corvette blog today about production of the ZR1 being stopped. There was no explanation given by GM/Bowling Green but apparently ZR1s that had been scheduled to be built are no longer scheduled to be built and vehicles that were supposed to get scheduled this week are not scheduled. There was no explanation. I believe there is an inventory of 23 ZR1s that have not been sold out of production of only 250 or thereabouts. Anyway, it looks like the ZR1 may have been killed and if it's killed, the XLR can't be far behind. Again, this is just my two cents. It's purely conjecture on my part and we'll have to see what GM has to say about why they stopped building them. Seems like if it was a parts availability issue or something like that, they could have let everyone know.

Here's the scoop concerning Vette production:

Jetboyphx 10-08-2008, 10:18 PM Given the economic conditions that are expected to last through 2009 I doubt GM will be able to tie up the funds for development. The CTS coupe in standard and V configuration will most likely be the last straw.
cadillac tech 10-09-2008, 11:41 AM The ZR1 is fine and still in production. All orders are sold @ this point.
I received this email yesterday.
Due to the recent rumors being spread on the internet about the halting of ZR1 production and the possible demise of the car from the 2009 model year lineup, we wanted to let you know that we have been in touch with General Motors, and here is what they had to say:
GM on Corvette ZR1 cancellation rumor: "Not true."
Posted Oct 7th 2008 10:37PM by Alex Nunez
The rumormill is a funny thing, and sometimes it can run amok. This appears to be one of those times. The DigitalCorvettes.com forum posted a note earlier this evening saying that Corvette ZR1 production has been halted (Bowling Green is shut down this week, so no Vettes are being built at the moment) and suggesting that the ZR1 may be cancelled. A post on dealer Rick "Corvette" Conti's blog, linked in the referenced DigitalCorvettes thread, added to the intrigue.
Autoblog has contacted GM's Terry Rhadigan, who handles global communications for the Chevrolet brand. We presented the DigitalCorvettes link and asked for an official response. His was very clear:
"Not true."

Lola's mom 10-09-2008, 12:19 PM 'Glad you cleared that up. Wouldn't it just be a shame if an American icon like the Corvette didn't progress and continue?
Now, if we could just get someone to verify the continuity of the XLR......:rolleyes :jester

mtrocket 10-09-2008, 12:54 PM For one thing... stopping production of the XLR would only make ours more rare and hence, more valuable...
Just my 2 cents worth
standby 10-09-2008, 05:20 PM Gee, that would be different. Just my .01 cent. That's all I have left.

DTS Diamond 10-10-2008, 09:22 AM If you did decide to sell your XLR who will have enough money to buy:nopity :nopity it? Used car prices have tanked along with the new car market. They will probably zero out the stock market and start from scratch. Doug J
ccclarke 10-10-2008, 03:26 PM Saw an 07 with 3k on it at my local dealership two weeks ago for $50k. It was gone when I visited the other day. Talk about depreciation! Whew!!

MTRocket I hate to point out that the Allante is also quite rare and still quite sophisticated. About 20,000 total production. The dealer offered me about $10,000 in real money for my pristine 93 1/2 Northstar Allante with factory hardtop and 27,000 miles when I bought my 08 XLR. Don't count on rarity saving us. Just enjoy the car. Anyone need a top notch Allante?

Point well taken... but as the title of this thread says, "There may still be hope!!!"
You Are Right About Stop Prod. On Xlr, In 20 Yrs. Ours Will Be Worth A Lot. Keep It Clean & Tuned, Some Will End Up As Someones Parts, As The Xlr Thins Out Here In The States Our Value Will Grow. Iam Keeping My 06 No Matter
I was at a car show a while back & there was about 20 of those ALLANTE'S in a group, still running good, but they are no where the class of the xlr, talked with some of the owners, wouldn't give it up, 300,000 + miles on some with nothing major going wrong.
presten 07-26-2010, 01:10 AM Just joined the group...bought a 2009 in bright red with 2024 miles on it for $60,000. Quite a drop from the original price but still a lot of money. I hope to keep it for many years and many miles.
ccclarke 12-24-2010, 12:26 PM Hope floats but sinks with depreciation. Well maintained, these cars might be worth more money --in about fifty or sixty years!
Cadillac is rumored to be coming out with a new convertible in the 14-15 timeframe based on a revised CTS coupe. The current CTS line is getting long in the tooth (in GM-years) and a re-design is forthcoming. As fuel prices continue to advance, I wonder how much longer the V series will stay relevant. Electric vehicles for the masses are still a ways off. Interesting times in the auto industry lie ahead with some revolutionary changes for us as consumers!
