Hey all,

Anyone ever seen a triple failure with "Service Stabilitrak", "Service ABS", and "Service TracSystem" coming up in the DIC one right after the other?? Just started happening today.. Only happens after I've been driving maybe 2-3 minutes or so.. Back to the dealer this week..

I do have a bald tire right rear that I'll be replacing this week.. had to get my tire shop to order runflats.. not sure if that could be contributing to the issue.

Yes ... we got all of those messages and then the battery went dead.

How's your battery??

hmm.. not sure.. Probably due for a replacement.. I think it's the original '04 battery.. I'll have to check. Thanks for the tip!

I believe Ruthie is on to something, you get many strange messages when the battery is about to die or has a very low charge.

I'd be willing to bet once your battery is replaced all the messages will magically disappear.

Good luck!

Yup. I was also told that if you receive alot of messages on the DIC that the most logical culprit is the battery. the dealer can run a load test on it ( at your expense) and in most cases will put a new battery in even if it is just weak.

They don't want you stranded on the side of the road.

I have a 2004 and had the same occurances. So I put my Battery Tender on it for a night or so and it seemed to give it new life.

There are also other conditions (with the electronic brake control module, for example) that can cause that. Hope it's something simple.

Yep exactly what was causing my issue...

yes.. I figured I could actually have something wrong with one of the Stabilitrack/ABS/Trac Control modules.. but I figured i'd replace the battery first since I do have the original '04 batt and go from there. Ordered up one of those OPTIMA batteries from the parts store, read good things about them and I figured with all of the electronics in this car, can't hurt to have a high quality battery in there.

will do.. Hopefully the optima battery fits... It came up as a battery option for the XLR in the shop computer.. but I found a few posts on various other forums saying it may not fit.. I'll post when I get it figured out. Batt should be in tomorrow.

thanks!

Hey All,

So replaced the stock battery with an Optima Red Top (Optima part number 25, I think).. It fit perfectly, no issues installing it.. Drove the car around 140 miles this weekend, no warning lights, all systems go. In fact the car seemed to run a bit "smoother" to me.. Don't know how else to describe it..

Great .... glad that worked for you.

What are the advantages of the Optima??

Well as I understand it, it's a drycell type battery, meaning there's no acid within the core.. Optima's drycell technology is called SpiralCell and it supposedly allows the battery to charge more efficiently and shed less "active material" therefore maintaining it's charge longer and giving it increased duribility under load... Great for cars like our XLR that have lots of electronics. It's also supposed to last twice as long as a normal battery.. The only downside is it's expensive.. Around 180 bucks.. However if it performs as advertised, and lasts as long as it's supposed to, I've no problems paying extra for the quality.

Here's their website. There's some good stuff in their FAQ if you'd like to learn more:
