One thing I do know is it can beat anything on the list, so what are we talking here? Classy or fasty?

Bob:

Glad to help out. It is interesting that the majority of members at this point would select the XLR-V as their next "Ride".

That says something for your forsite in buying one when the first came out.

Now if we can only stem the tide on that pesky depreciation.............

Jerry,
Take a look on E-bay. They have quite a few of these cars and your not going to like the pricing people are offering for these beauties.Bob:

I believe if you check the depreciation of comparably priced cars, including the Mercedes 500, you'll see they all take a beating. In fact, the '06 Mercedes doesn't hold up as well as an '06 "V."

Bob and I have been discussing this issue since he had his 2004. I agree with you both--that the prices are low--and the other cars are not holding thier value eiither.

It makes you think about our options going forward....if we want to move up.....do we jump a couple of model years for a good deal on a low mileage model or do we consider a new one in 2010?? Hey maybe it'll be a XLR CROSSOVER!!!!!

My dealer has his 2006 "V" coming off a 2 year lease. He's hoping to get $49k WITH new tires and Cadillac Certification.

That's the other side of the coin. The vette may not be in precisely the luxo market segment they are, but they're not exactly in the performance or price bracket the vette is.

Who knows what the situation might be if the Corvette were offered with a retractable hardtop? I'd certainly consider it.

Yea, I'd be a defector too. I'd probably go to the top drawer Mustang............The Super Snake.
Just think you can buy a new V for $88,000 with the GM family discount. Do you think they are making any money on this? You bet your life they are.I see we've uncovered a few defectors--if they've ever even owned an X.

Will never happen. It would add to much extra weight to an already super lite platform. Remember weight is the no. 1 enemy of a sports car. :cheers

I do think the corvette should be included. When I was looking it was between a corvette, xlr 500sl and bmw m3. I am happy with the choice I made but the corvette was a very close second. I made an ofer on an 03 500sl and was 2000 off. He had the car 17 monthe and was willing to sell it for $32000 less than he paid, Talk about depreciation. I think the current market puts all bets off. You cant begrudge GM for the depreciation, It's with all cars now. An 08 vette with 11000 miles just sold at the local auto auction for $29000. It's just the times. I have a boat that has depreciated $50000 in the last year, Witch bite's, But if I keep it it dosn't matter and if I sell it I can get a bigger one for $100000 less so it is all relevent. Dave

I always take a look at the NSX's when I'm surfing over on ebay. Seems to be one of the few cars holding it's value well.

I like the Bentleys but I am practical and service here in the desert is very limited. Las Vegas is a few hours away by car OR flatbed! I don't NEED the "V", because this car has nice performance without problems (so far). We have quite a few days that reach well over 120 degrees (F) durring our summers, and this car seems to take that kind of abuse in stride. "I wanted the BLUE, I don't really care about 'total top speeds', I play with race boats, and relax in my XLR. "Going to work, going to the gym, or just going no where, this car 'feels good' and at my age that's all it takes"!

Funny, the poll says I've voted although I don't recall doing so. Anyway, if I had to choose now what I'd be looking at 3-4 years from now, I'd have to consider the new Lexus IS convertible.

Haven't seen one yet. And it's not a sure thing. My cpo warranty runs out in 6 months, but it'll probably be 2-3 years before reliability and/or repair costs start to be a bother -- that's assuming the ever-present creaking of plastic doesn't get to me first. (I'm just going to rip those vanity mirror covers right off any month now). A cpo 2010 or 11 IS convert might look pretty attractive then, especially if lexus still lets you extend the cpo warranty from 3 years to 6 for $2k or so like they do now. We'll be replacing the minivan with a cpo RX400h in a few weeks, so we'll get some lexus experience.

I don't regret buying the XLR; I simply wasn't that interested in a 5th Corvette. And if GM doesn't make the CTS convertible too big I'll certainly look at it too.

BTW, those two votes for a lexus SE are probably actually for a lexus SC...

Nah the other Lexus votes were done a long time before the ISC came out. Its the "Bath Tub" car that nearly everybody doesn't like.

The ISC seems to be a reincarnation and rebadged verson of the Toyota Convertible that was dropped.

It just may be a good alternative for your needs.

I like it based on the TV ads but haven't seen it in person....yet.

Understandable... after all, a Cadillac is a breed of itself; a Lexus, to me anyway, is just an over-priced Toyota...

Agreed. The new CTS is a really nice car!!! I was suprised at the refinements since the 2007 CTS Sport came out.

There are some interesting small "enhancements" that we would like to have in our XLR's like a USB port in the center console for your iPod to play back through the radio.

I am planning on trading my 2006 for a 2009. Am I going to have the same problems I have experienced with the 2006?
I would appreciate 2009 owners letting me know what kind of problems you have had with your 2009.
As many of you know I have had more trips to dealership in last year for top problems, and have decided to trade for a new one.
I love this car so much and still feel it is the most beautiful vehicle ever. I more than likely will trade no matter what, but I just want a heads up. My room mate tells me this may be the last he will subsidize.
I realize no one can tell me if a 2009 will have problems, but if there are many in this first year, it is not a good sign.
My car has now been in 2 weeks in the last month, Gm techs advising, even calls to top manufacturer.

FWIW: I had one of the first 2004 XLRs and recently upgraded to a new 2008 XLR-V.

BOTH cars had some top issues. However, the 2004 up to the time I traded it and now the 2008 "V" work flawlessly.

I attribute this to the technicians at the dealership AND the factory information that I was able to turn up and post on this site.

I am wondering if your technicians are XLR Certified.

I also am interested in knowing what they think abut the Cadillac Top Bulletins I posted and they have access to.

What I am saying is that IF you have problems and the technicians are the same you are essentially right back to where you were exept you have a lot more money invested.

Where are you located??

Are there other Cadillac Dealers close to you or in reasonable traveling distance??

Hopefully you take some comfort in the fact that there are very few top problems posted on this site now days.

I truly believe your top issues can be resolved. We just need to be sure that the correct diagnosis is being made and that the right bullitins are being referenced.

I am going to go back and read you post on exactly what is happening to your top and see if I can turn up the right information for you. So PLEASE DON'T trade your car for a top problem.

Regards

Jerry

I've had my 2009 XLR-V since Janurary and it was a daily driver with two long trips and have had one service item that was fixed. No other problems have been noted. Haven't driven it much since Sept though as I have a 2010 Grand Sport that volunteered for the daily driving duties..

Thanks for sharing your experiences with your 2009 XLR. It is important for members to know that these cars were refined and improved consideribly over the 6 years they were in production.

I owned a 2004 and now I own a 2008 "V" and the improvements are definitely high quality and the mechanical failures are less frequent because the car has evolved over the years.

What can I say Jerry, I love my XLR but they've been discontinued and I've had a peek of the future top end Corvette and if GM puts all the creature comforts in them as what's in my XLR, it gets my vote because they're still being produced.

I don't think I voted before but if I did and it was before GM discontinued the XLR.

Who knows what the situation might be if the Corvette were offered with a retractable hardtop? I'd certainly consider it.

I'm with you on the 'vette retractable - in fact, my dealer told me to buy a vette instead of an XLR - said they would hold values better! Thought that was interesting coming from a Caddy dealer!
