: Dead Battery???

Pretty strange, attempted to open the door and the car didn't know me. OK, I thought, dead FOB battery--went back into the house and got the spare--nope.

Luckily, the window was down so I was able to open the hood, no under-hood light--hmm. . .

The battery is exactly one year old. Can a battery die that quickly? I had the car out last night. But for it to be so dead that not even the hood light glows?

Is there such a thing as some kind of main breaker? If so, why did it trip?

I hope someone else can help you .... I can't, of course .... and our Cadillac Tech is out of town at the races with our other Indiana/Ohio members .... :banghead

But .... I can tell you that Lola had 3 batterys replaced in 3 years. I now know that battery number 3 was probably our fault. When we first got her we did not know that we were supposed to keep the engine running while operating the top .... but we were so facinated with her performance that we eagarly showed it off to all of our friends ...:) :) So ... of course .... dead battery after about 5 ups and downs. :mad

ALSO ..... although I know you drive the Black Sheep plenty .... I was told when they did replace the battery to make sure to drive the car enough time to do a thourgh re-charge ..... I know you know all of this, but sometimes even though I drive Lola everyday, sometimes it's just to or from an errand and then I remember I need to put some time on the road .... Well, I must be doing something right, because we haven't had to change the battery since.

Sorry that has happened to Black Sheep .... it's frustrating, I know.

Yes Floyd, the main breaker is usually in the garage or in Florida probably a closet. If the lights go out in your house, you have the same problem as your car.
Speaking of funny things..............Are you still supporting the fact that the MAS, Mass air sensor doesn't have anythig to do with the tranny or did Bruce change your opinion..........Just wonderinghttp://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_7_28.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZS)

Same thing happend on the C6 Vette last week. Had only sat for 8 days and was totally dead. Gave it a jump and drove it 70 miles home and then to the dealer the next day. Dealer says battery tests out fine and one of the computers had probably not shut down right. We will see if it happens again. The Vette is one year old, the XLR going on 4 with no battery issues and it sits much longer times.

I know I am going to regret saying this but I still have my original battery in my car ( December 2003).

I would offer the following advice that I learned as a result of dead batteries in my Harleys after sitting for a few weeks. Get a Battery Tender ($39.95).

In the case of the car, plug the Battery Tender in on occasion and leave it over night. You will be very pleasently surprised when you start the car again because the battery will be at full power.

My XLR just turn 4 (July5) And no battery problems as of yet. Go figure that one, As it just turn 21,000 mile yesterday. It is pretty much a weekend ride. Has sat as much as 2 weeks without being started. Robin

Well, just got back from the dealership--bad battery, charging system checked OK. Only got one year on the battery!!

In Nevada, battery life is very short 2 to 3 years. Perhaps because of the heat of Florida it's similar, but one year is not enough.

It certainly is HOT here, which is why I always open the hood to let it breathe a bit when returning from a drive.

Still, one year is far too short a time to have a battery die!

My car sat for 4-5 days. When I got in it the steering wheel and seat adjustments did not go to the right spot. I then pressed the start, nothing, pressed again and it started! However non of my gauges worked the traction light, brake warning light and every other light was lit. I could not take it out of park. Ran it for a minute, turned it off, then started it again, no difference, had on star run a test and it said bring it in right away the main computer lost its link (something like that). I turned it off figuring I would have to have it towed Monday. Seven hours later got in it and started it and everything worked 100% normal. I think it was just on the edge of enough power the first time and running it must of restored the power enough. I have 100% warrenty and 7,000 miles on my 2005. What will GM do about the battery? I'm half tempted to go by a gell cell. They are the best and near impossible to kill.

Ah yes, This is called the Hans of Germany fix..............I know, he saved me on a Saturday on a special day.
Take your ground off your battery and let it stand for 10 minutes, not even, put it back on tight and wolaaaaaaaaaaaa everything returns to normal.
BTW...........there was nothing wrong with the battery, but has been changed out just recently for another reason under warranty

GM will replace the battery absolutely free.

My 2007 has gone through 2 batteries in a little over a year. Thankfully, both were cheerfully and quickly installed by Roadside Assistance. My tech said he wants to investigate parasitic draw.

Welome to the XLR Forum as a Official Poster.

YOUR BATTERY ISSUES: I agree you either need to go to the dealer and find out why your batteries are going bad. there could be something that is drawing them down when the car is not running.

In the meantime I would put it on a Battery Tender and see if it holds a full charge.

ALSO: Are you putting your top up and down with having the engine runniing a lot??? It will draw the battery down quite a bit each time and the battery will not return to a full charge if you are driving short tirips.
