Deep knocking sound from top.

Bruce,

I think the sound I was trying to get you to hear after Cold Stone is my top moving up and down and the 'spikes' thumping against the 'sheaths' that they sit inside of when the top is up. When I was driving with the top up I rested my hand on the seam between the A column and the top and could feel a decent amount of differential movement between the two.

I am not personally aware of any 'final locking' the top does once it is fully shut, but I am sure there has to be one. I just am under the impression that it is not being performed in the operating procedure. I do not get the 'top not secure' message in the DIC. I have not tried to get the manual lock and pop off the plastic circle and 'lock' the top manually, but feel my thumping would go away. I don't feel that this is a big safety issue at this time and am currently waiting on a replacement floor mat to come in a the dealership. When my floor mat gets in I will take the car in and get the top looked at. My one concern is that I don' recall any step in the 'learn' mode for the top that includes 'locking' it in place. (It could have been that I just omitted that step when I was helping the tech in Poulsbo re-train my top a year and a half ago. - It was his first time as well as mine so mistakes could certainly have abounded.)

My take on the fix is that the top operating sequence just needs to be re-learned by the car to include the final lock down of the top. Does my logic coincide with your technical knowledge and experience?

As always - Thanks!

Ben, I don't think the top learn procedure will make a difference in your case. The learn procedure is more for the top position sensors and learning their full travel. Your's may need to have the front header latch adjusted to pull the top down more onto windshield header.

I had the car in the shop and the only thing needed was to have the receiving holes above the windsheild shimmed a little. Works like a champ now and is no longer "annoying as hell" (the description the tech gave when we test drove it).

Thanks for straightening me out Bruce.
