Does anyone know if the 2008 redesigned key Fob can be programed to work with an earlier addition XLR? I have an 05 and I like the 08 FOB with the built in key.

Yes, you can have a 2005/2007 programed for the 2008 remote. But the issue is that you would have to replace the lock cylinders for the glove box and the emergency access in the rear bumper. The reason is they are of a different design and the 05/07 cylinders could not be recoded to work with the new smaller key.

The 04 remotes used a unique design electronics and are a year to itself.

After learning that I needed all new keys and locks in addition to the new '08 remote, I eventually found a set on ebay and put them away for a project day...

Tonight I tried to program the '08 fob in my '06 XLR-V and I'm happy to say that it works fine.

Now I just have to replace the lock cylinder in the glove box and the bumper... frankly, I'm not looking forward to removing the rear bumper cover, but hopefully it won't be much of a big deal... :)

Nicer fob, but be very careful, they tend to break near the top where the key inserts.
