: extend warranty where to go!!!
wannaxlr 06-30-2008, 06:08 PM My 05 original warranty will be up in april of next year. I really need to find out some information for extending my warranty.
I want to keep my car and this piece of c$$p will not survive without it. I love my car......:) don't get me wrong but i am constantly having a problem with this car.
Can someone give me some resources on where i should look other than the dealership.
THANK YOU.

aerobat3 06-30-2008, 08:33 PM I'll be getting MGPP for my 05 in the fall. I checked into it about a year ago, and the online high volume places were way better than the dealers, although it would not hurt to give your local dealer a chance to match a price you get online. I only checked a few, but a place called bob pion had the lowest prices at the time. you can find him online and get an immediate quote, depending on miles, how long a warranty you want, and where you live.

rbrown 07-01-2008, 07:49 PM what is teh web site of Bob Pion
Jetboyphx 07-01-2008, 10:16 PM Here is the Bob Pion site http://www.pionauto.com/index.htm
I got mine from this dealer, Black Pontiac/Cadillac http://www.gmoutlet.com/quote/emailserver/majorguard/mgn_email2008.htm
homegameroom 07-02-2008, 04:09 PM Or you can use this to get directly to Bob Pion: http://www.gm-auto-mall.com/dealership/home.cfm to get a quick quote online.
However, I also just purchased mine from the same folks as Jetboy (THANKS, KENT!!!) and saved a couple hundred bucks! My local dealer actually offered me a slightly lower price, but Black Pontiac-Cadillac has NO SALES TAX and a $50 off promo. Yeah, I'm not naiive- the promo probably is always on. I bought the 4 year/48,000 mile policy with a $50 deductible (I can't get the zero deductible due to the age of my car) on my 04 base with 22,000 miles for $2395. (Pion was $2703, full retail price is $2920)
I've been debating it for quite a while, but I needed to do something because you can't buy it for a car that is out of factory warranty (mine is up in August) so I had to either s*&t or get off the pot now.
And if anyone has a better price, LET ME KNOW NOW before I mail the check tomorrow!!!!!!:yesnod

Thanks for the site referral!!!! I especially like the comparision chart of the different plans regarding what is and what isn't covered under each plan. The only thing I noticed that isn't specifically referred to is the XLR top, trunk--etc and their mechanics.
Here's a question--If you have a Cadillac Certified car, can you extend that warranty out for 4 years more and at what price???
It's a serious question given GM's closing $10 stock price today and comments that bankruptcy isn't out of the question.
We should all endeavor to identify opportunities to protect our extensive investments in our XLR's.
Regards
xlrjim 07-02-2008, 08:15 PM I bought my extended warranty for our 04 XLR from Fichtner Chevrolet. They are in the Billings Montana area.
Montana does not have sales tax so there is a savings there and their cost was lower than any I could find on line.
I bought mine in November so don't know what the current pricing is.

For more GMPP dealers, check the Corvette and Z06 forums. One alternative contact is Jason Walter at Ross Downing Chevrolet. I've dealt with him several times, and the prices and service have been excellent.
Since the various pricing schedules and individual prices are determined by model, age and mileage, they'll need your VIN (for in-service date) and current mileage for an accurate quote. Some will compete; some won't.
The plan comparison on the site mentioned was likely a general outline for all makes and models since that's a multi-line dealer. Based on my talks with GMPP (there's a phone number for questions), the electrical and mechanical parts of the top are covered by Major Guard. Don't know about the other plans, but it would seem unlikely.
There are rules and limits to how long the plans can be extended and within what time and mileage parameters it can be done.
As always, everything is subject to change...
mswaim 07-12-2008, 09:45 AM I'm telling you, now is the time to hit the phones and the internet to shop for your extended warranties. Go to your local dealer and have their finance manager give you a peek at what they are actually paying for the warranty that fits your situation, then offer $100 over and work up from there. If they laugh, walk and now go forward knowing where the profit line is for them. Selling a warranty takes a couple of minutes for them, so don't be bashful - they are hungry.........and a lot of them are facing unemployment so every sale counts.
A friend of ours was looking for a warranty for his Denali, Doris made two calls to local dealers, the best price she could get over the phone was $200 over what we knew to be the bottom line. After dropping by and getting his quote in writing, my friend opted to take the quote to his dealer who matched the offer on the spot. Prior to that, his best offer was $900 over that same bottom line.
Warranties are huge markup items, so take the time to shop.

Does anyone know what the 'invoice' price is to the dealer? I have a 2005 with 40K miles with the warranty ending Nov 1 or in 8K miles so I need to decide to either buy a 2009 or purchase an extended warranty.

Bill,
I don't know what the invoice price is per se, but I was quoted 1185 on my 2005 with under 25,000 for 5 years, 40,000 miles, 0 deductible by Black Cadillac. Many forum members have gotten their best price from them, me included.....then I went to my Chevy dealer from whom we buy our work trucks. They'll sell me same warranty for 1085. I'm going in tomorrow, maybe I can find out the price for you.
How many years, miles and deductible?
Linda

Thanks Linda.

No - I never heard back from Linda. But I'm still interested.

LinSue 09-09-2008, 07:06 AM Hey Bill and Doug,
No excuses here, guess I got busy and forgot. Sorry. I did get extended warranty on my '05 from my local Chevy dealer on 8/31. I did 40,000 and 60 months. I only have 6,500 so I fell in the under 24,000 category. My price was 1085, tax included. My dealer said he'd beat Black by 100 and did. But I still don't know what their cost was. He said he made 100 on it. Maybe. He also said price goes up 9/15.....Black said it was going up on 9/1. Hope this helps.....and I hope the GMPP will prove to be a good investment.

Doug,
Curious as to the significance of your screen name "DTS Diamond". My new daily drive is a blue diamond DTS and she looks like Momma Bear next to blue steel XLR. Just wondering if you had a blue one too. Linda
DTS Diamond 09-09-2008, 07:21 AM Linda: Thanks for the information on Ext Warrenties. What deductable did you get for that price? Doug J
DTS Diamond 09-09-2008, 12:56 PM Linda: DTS Diamond is a 07 DTS Lux3 white diamond with shale interior. Also have a 93 Allante white with maroon top and interior showing just shy of 12K origional miles. Doug J

Doug,
It was "0" deductible.

aerobat3 09-30-2008, 11:51 PM I started a new thread about this in the general discussion topics by mistake. meant to respond to this thread but overlooked it. take a look. i think i got an excellent price and if anyone is interested, i think most dealers will still give last year's rate for the next day or so.
