I purchased a new toy 60 Ford

When it arrived I parked the XLR (normally my daily driver) and drove the new toy for four days. I jokingly told my wife that he XLR ('Beautiful Beast ) would be jeaalous and perhaps take revenge. Well.....When I got ready to switch cars the XLR was dead (battery)!. I realize that when the car sets up the battery drains but it was only idle for 96 hours and the car is only 1.5 years old. I believe it was a clear case of revenge. Let this be a warning to others who would two time their 'number one':nono

redv,

I have an '04 XLR and had the repair history run on it recently as I am the second owner. I drive the car only 6-8 months a year--weather permitting and store it in the winter; on a battery tender. This spring after taking it out of storage it started fine twice and then was dead after a half day of sitting. Warranty replaced no problem. As I looked back on the short list of repairs this car has had I see the battery was replaced in early '06 by previous owner--also under warranty.

At RII tech sessions this was also discussed and we were told the car is always drawing power, for the computer memory and such and if it will be sitting for any length of time a battery tender is recommended. Hope this helps.

Yes thanks!
I know size is not supposed to matter but the battery looks small for so much electronics and "ignition off" drain.

You may want to have yours checked to see if it has the latest program for the RCDLR. There is a bulletin for the battery going dead after setting for a few days.

Condition
Some customers may comment on a dead battery after the vehicle has been parked for a extended period of time. Typically, the battery will last approximately two weeks, depending on the initial state of battery charge.

Cause
A software anomaly within the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) causes an additional 30 mA draw on the battery when passive locking is enabled and the vehicle is parked.

Correction
Do This
Don't Do This

Reprogram the RCDLR.
DO NOT replace the RCDLR.

Important: Use the Pass-Thru method when programming and select "Replace and Reprogram ECU."

A new calibration has been released to correct this condition. Reprogram the RCDLR using SPS. This new service calibration is available on TIS2WEB.

Important: On Corvette models, prior to reprogramming, remove the Radio/S-Band/VICS 15-amp fuse and the HVAC/PWR SND 10-amp fuse from the I/P electrical center (passenger floor). Also, the ignition must be in the "Key On Engine Off" mode.

If the programming does not finish successfully and the RCDLR appears to be in a "locked-up" state, DO NOT turn off the ignition, it can be reset by removing the RCDLR fuse (#11 in the UBEC) for at least 30 seconds and reinstalling it. If the ignition was turned to OFF after the "locked up" condition occurred, its possible to continue programming by adding the VIN manually in TIS.

Tip
Transmitter programming and tire pressure learn procedures are NOT necessary after this reprogram.

Please refer to SI for additional information on other potential causes of battery drain.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
