The brake calipers and mounting brackets came back from the powdercoater yesterday... They look awsome!!! I hope to get them put on Larry Fahrenkamp's Xenon Blue X tomorrow. I had the calipers coated in Xenon Blue and the brackets in gloss black, and the letters were coated silver and then cleared. Mike Golding in Georgia, ThePowdercoater.com did and excellent job and got them back to us in a week. Mike can do about any color you might want. If you don't want the whole caliper in body color, you could have just the XLR letters done and have the caliper coated in gloss black or silver. Larry and Marc Toffolo went in on the set that we sent out. (I don't think their wifes know) The one's I take off of Larry's will be sent out for Marc's X. You will be able to see them next week at RIII. If anyone else is interested in getting them done for your X, let me know and we can do an exchange with the ones off of your's.

It will be $480 exchange. I can have the powdercoated calipers shipped to you and you can send me your cores.

I believe the process is that they have one non-powdercoated set on hand (the most recent 'core' set) that gets sent to the shop once an order comes in. That set is then coated to the specification of the order and shipped to the purchaser. The purchaser then in turn gets them installed on his XLR and then sends his non-powdercoated brakes back to Bruce to restock his core and await the next order.

These painted calipers and brackets are top notch. The powder coating looks very professional. Everyone notices them and comments on the great look. Just another means of turning heads on an already great looking vehicle.

I would recommend to anyone for a classic touch.

Has anyone ever tried the home powdercoating kits you can buy on the internet? Seems inexpensive........

This is my wifes Red X with Eastwoods epoxy paint. Whole job takes about an 1hr to do both sides. This was done last yr on my old wheels I now have new chromed ones! The letters are polished I then taped them over and painted the calpiers. Then removed the tape before the epoxy dried. Too difficult to remove afterward. jimhttp://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa244/rufcar/DSC00568.jpg

Another satisfied customer! :thumbs

I had my calipers (through Bruce) powder coated as well - the calipers are a medium gray, the brackets are black. The letters are polished and clearcoated. The powder coating is FLAWLESS!!!!! My calipers looked kind of bland, with the color just blending in and the lettering looking worse all the time. Even the wheels look better now as a result of the new calipers! :lol

Like the wheels too, Rich. As you know I did my calipers myself but am thinking of having Bruce do mine as well. The powder coating probably holds up better than anything else. I'm starting to notice some small spots on mine where it has flaked off. I see you also put new rotors on as well, car is looking great.

Yeah, in for a dime, in for a dollar. I bought new rotors as well and painted them. I also bought new ceramic brake pads. Guess what?!? No more squealing when I stop!!! Oh yeah, new wheels too! :thumbs

I thought about painting the calipers myself, but I was concerned about it flaking off. The powder coater cleans them very well before coating, and, as you might know, powder coated finished are extremely resistant to just about anything. Mike (the powdercoater) specializes in brake and engine components, so I'm confident in his work. It is flawless!

I allowed myself a Saturday to replace all the brake components and bleed the system, but it only took me a couple of hours! It's a great brake design and fairly simple to do-it-yourself. The screws that hold the brackets on are the toughest to get off- they're torqued fairly high out of necessity and have loc-tite on the threads.

Rich, Misty looks great! You forgot to mention your fun new toy, the brake bleeder. I'm glad to hear that all went well.

Rich, Misty looks great with all the new bling. Can't wait to see her in person again. And you too.. We were thinking about you last night at the Keith Urban/Kenny Chessney Concert, as you could tell from Kris" text to you. Just another good memory to reflect on.

Engine paint will work just as well. I did the following to mine and it's an 06 with 27,000 on it. The calipers are multi painted just like the V badges on the side

I used the Caliper Paint for $16. Turned out a lot better than I figured. Used about 6 coats and I will probably go over again next week.
