: Possible Fuel Leak...
SilverXLR2004 05-29-2008, 04:11 PM Besides the unusual engine vibration I already mentioned in a previous thread, I am suspecting a fuel leak for the second time. Recently, the check gas cap warning appeared on my DIC(when quarter tank of fuel is left only). Moreover, a severe smell of fresh fuel outside the vehicle; and, to make the matters worse, I can hear some kind of liquid dropping and evaporating on the exhaust. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your assistance...
Oh, I like posting pictures in my threads

SilverXLR2004 05-29-2008, 04:57 PM My second thought would be to sue GM and get millions out of it. If it is a second time fuel leak.

SilverX 05-29-2008, 10:18 PM Silver2004,
The liquid dropping noise happens almost everytime when I stop my car engine. It is never for a long time. My guess is that it comes from the condensate water dropping on the hot exhaust pipe. I hope for you that it is the same condition for your car.
I would tighten or replace the gas cap again.
Good luck.

XLR_Lover 05-30-2008, 05:13 AM Right, it could be only water. . .but, "a severe smell of fresh fuel" tells me it certainly could be otherwise. . .I'm still running!!! :eek

cadillac tech 05-30-2008, 07:13 AM The water that drains from the A/C evap. case is what is dripping on the exhaust on the passenger side. That tells you the drain is not restricted (a good thing).
Check gas cap message... you either have a cap that is not sealing or you have a small leak on the evap. side of your fuel sytem. Hasn't the fuel tank and or tanks been replaced on this car? That is where I would start looking.

bumbleent 05-30-2008, 09:08 AM When I had my fuel leak it was in tne crossover between the two tanks.

SilverXLR2004 05-30-2008, 09:31 AM I wanted to quote all your messages gentlemen but i couldn't. That was my second thought that it is from "water condensation". Probably, the smell of fuel is from a loose cap "at least this is what i hope". I'll try to replace the cap with a new one and i'll see. Because, if fuel was dropping on the hot exhaust, it will immediately ignite. right? .
One more question: in case the problem "the leak" was from the replacements they did on the car earlier, such as the fuel tank and the crossover pipe, shouldn't there be some kind of warranty that if it fails they replace it on their own responsibility? at least in the US?

cadillac tech 05-30-2008, 10:58 AM Yes, there should be at least a 12/12 warranty on the repairs.

I had the same problem on my 04 as mentioned by bumbleent; the crossover tube between the two tanks had failed. The symptoms are identical to those you describe. If that is your problem, hope you are still under warrenty; the repair is expensive. My warrenty had expired when the crossover failed, but Cadillac did cover parts after I wrote a letter to them.

SilverXLR2004 05-30-2008, 04:19 PM As Mr. cadillac_tech said, there should be 12/12 warranty on repairs. I already paid 1800 USD to have the left side tank and the crossover tank replaced 1 year ago because my car was "out of warranty" but it only had 100 or 150 miles on it!! I am not willing to pay for their negligence again. Whatever it takes, they should replace it under their own responsibility.
