: Top issues ---- Again
COMFORT ZONE 05-28-2008, 09:22 PM I went to put the top down and it stuck 1/2 way. The top is now ajar, the windows will not go up and the trunk is stuck in a fully raised position. I took it to the local Cadillac dealership and dropped it off.
This has all started happening since they FIXED my top from its other issues.

Lola's mom 05-28-2008, 09:28 PM Wait ..... there wasn't anything wrong with your top before was there? Wasn't the problem that it was rubbing the paint? I think I'm confused .... :confused

COMFORT ZONE 05-29-2008, 03:50 AM Wasn't the problem that it was rubbing the paint?
Lola's Mom
According to the dealership, several parts including some shafts and software had to be replaced or upgraded for the top to close properly without the paint rub. The top worked fine the first 2 times I lowered it after the work was done. I tried it on Memorial Day and it acted a little hokey when I put it back up. Yesterday it just stopped in the raised position. :skep
Also, the gas door has not worked properly since they worked on the top. They have ordered the parts to fix it, but have not done it yet.

It is not the fuses. :rolleyes
homegameroom 05-29-2008, 08:42 AM I had the same problem, but in the winter when i was demonstrating the top for a friend! I was eventually able to get it down after a "reboot". The dealer replaced the brains for the top, but did not appear to replace any related hardware (switches, etc). So far, all is working well........ Good luck- I hope you get it back SOON!!!

I don't know when you had your top reprogrammed but I went through this in late December. I waited until after the holidays and had it reprogrammed and most all of the solonoid switches replaced.
It works real good now. I hope you are going to BG III. They will more than likely take it and do the whole job while you are there.

About 2 weeks ago. I have business obligations and will not be able to make it to BG III.

When you get a chance, see if your service ticket shows any of the solonoid switches being replaced.
It seems that most of the older ones may malfunction after awhile. The newest ones seem to work much better.
I also suggest that you determine if the dealership is certified to work on XLR's.
Mr. XLR (Allen) said that there are some dealerships that didn't have technicians that were trained to work on the XLR...... on other Cadillacs but not the XLR.
The next sugestion is to see if there is another dealer that you would be willing to have look at the problem and who hopefully has certified mechanics.
The entire process for mine took less than a day. I wish you were closer so we could just run it in and getter done!!!
Regards
Mr XLR 06-01-2008, 11:17 PM There are well over 600 dealers that are NOT certified XLR dealers. That means they don't have an XLR trained technician. That is because a dealer may be in an area that doesn't sell many XLRs.
You may also be going to a certified dealer, but if they dont sell many, they aren't going to service many,, so the repairs normally are not up to par. It's not the deakers fault he isn't in an area to sell many XLRs.
There are only 400 lxus dealers nation wide, and many owners travel for hours to get to the closest dealer. remember the largest proffit source for that Lexus dealer is his service dept. so customers do drive to get there.
I always recomend when buying an XLR, a big part of the choice and an important question should be, "how many XLRs did you sell last year" do that with every dealer in the market, and the one that sells the most will usually always have the best service.
For now, I would recomend finding the largest XLR dealer in your area. Send me a PM or email with your address and vin # and I will find out for you.

COMFORT ZONE 06-02-2008, 04:57 AM I will be out of town during BGIII. I would have one of my employees run the XLR down to Bowling Green if I thought the Cadillac techs would look at it. I is only about 30 minutes from my house.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to do just that.

I may check with Jim and the BG III organizers and see what would be involved in that. I am not sure it will be out of my local shop by then. I took it in last Wednesday and they said their XLR guy was out until Monday. I am not sure how long it will take him to look at it. I would need to atleast get the top to close and the trunk down before I had it driven to BG.
XLR_Lover 06-02-2008, 05:31 AM Well, you have until Friday, as that's when the techs will be there to check the cars. I believe you could have someone drive her there and just join all the others awaiting the exam.

homegameroom 06-02-2008, 06:01 AM It isn't easy, but you could always finish lowering the top by hand. It is documented in your owners manual.:banghead

I tried it before I took it to the shop. The valve would not budge. I did not have any tools with me, since this happened while I was out in town. I was however, 3 blocks from the Cadillac dealership. They have it now.

When that happened to me, I helped the service guy move the top back up and locked it into place.
The dealership took over then and did the changes. Allen is offering to help and he will be in BG. So hopefully you can take advantage of the Cadillac "Brain Trust" being in town Friday.
Best Wishes for a quick resolution.
Mr XLR 06-02-2008, 02:13 PM I have had the XLR vehicle team contact the dealer, and they are already working on the issue with the dealer as we speak.

A quick PM to Allen (Mr. XLR) and the ball is now rolling. Allen called me shortley after I sent him the PM and let me know he had already contacted Cadillac. Since then, they have already contacted my local dealership. The car is expected to be back to me in a couple of days.
I cannot explain how helpful this forum and its members have been.
Thanks Allen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAY TO GO ALLEN!!!!
It's too bad that we don't have a clearly defined escalation process for these type of nagging issues.
In the end it will ensure satisfied customers and possibly contribute to repeat buyers.

COMFORT ZONE 06-06-2008, 04:02 AM Today makes 1 week and 2 days that it has been in the shop. I hope to get it back soon..... Every time it is in the shop they tell me I would have gotten it back earlier, but they ordered the part and Cadillac sent the wrong one... I see a pattern ....:banghead
mswaim 06-06-2008, 10:05 AM Ahh, I feel your pain. Our 2004 went through the same process, including a call to my dealer from beloved Allen who felt he could facilitate the repair. Without going into details, we ended up lemoning the pile of junk a few weeks later.
I hope things work out for you; I know how frustrating it can get.

I'm REAL GLAD to hear that!!!!
See if they replaced the various solonoid switches with the reprograming.
It might be of help to anyone else who encounters this problem.
Enjoy the top down weather!!!

I will post the info when the send me the info on what they did. Last time they did the following:
Replaced strut rods, recalibrated and modified shims per tech

Yea that sounds right.
They are learning how to make it better since the changes are showing up in the newer models.
I don't know if you have had it done but IF you get more comfortable with your dealer they can do what Comfortzone was settign up in Bowling Green...upgrad all of the software to the newest versions.
I have a 2004 and had it done as part of the Cadillac Cerifiying process. It made a lot of difference in every way..kinda like a new software upgrade for your computer.
Stay on them and you will prevail.
Put the top down and enjoy yourself!!! It's 95 + here so I'll wait until the evening when the ocean breezes come in
Best Wishes.

Mine was certified the week before I bought it. That was earlier this year. I would have though they would have done it then. I will find out. I have all of my car history and certification info. THANKS!!!
XLR I FL 06-07-2008, 11:20 AM When you get a chance and the Forum members are back for BG III see if cadillac tech will go online and see if you have the very lates updates for your car.
It would be very interesting if there were a few missed in the Certifying process.
He should also be able to see if you toop stuff was the latest before your most recent upgrades.
I hope thats all of the issues you run into with the car. It truly is a great vechicle when it isn't in the shop.
Best Wishes.
