I just purchased a 2007 XLR... was wrecked in the front. There is part of the wiring harness torn off -- I need to know what it was plugged into so I can order the connector. The bare wire is just above where the right headlamp connects on the right frame rail.
thanks

A picture is worth a thousand words when asking questions like this.
--- As for where the wire goes, what doesn't work on the front end? That might be a good clue as to the identity of the affected circuit. Then one of us can begin digging through schematics to find the applicable connector(s). Most of the electrical circuits use color-coded wire. What color is the open wire?

Thanks for the reply. Couldn't take picture, the car was at the frame shop. Got it back today, so here's a picture of the wiring. The connector in the picture has green/black wires to it, the connector that is gone has purple/black wires.

Ahhh . . . I was hoping you would come back w/more info. First off, to ID the wire I need some more info. For starters, the orientation of the camera. My guess is Front/Right side, with the rear of the vehicle towards the top of the frame, but I hate to guess. The exposed wire has a pinkish hue to the insulation; what is the exact color? It appears to have come out of the wire loom to the right of it. A shot about twice that size would also be very helpful (for orientation/scale.) Look inside the wire loom to the right and check for any wire(s) in there too. If the harness has symmetry, there might be a similar one on the other side to compare for component routing, which could be of help. (I used to wire up spacecraft in another life.) If the wire was torn from a bundle, there is a strong possibility the pull force along the wire run could have damaged the other end, or other associated wiring (insulation abrasion or damage to the oppposite termination at the connector.) I say this because it looks like there is a fair amount of exposed conductor from the open wire, (tough to tell with the focal plane not on the wire -the end could even be crushed) but if it was torn out, that's a good indicator the harness in this area was under severe tension (the jacket/insulation will creep backwards, since conductors don't stretch appreciably.)
Also in regards to the wire colors, we hard-core wire-fighting geeks use a convention of sorts when describing wire runs: "Connector X has two wires, a GRN/BLK and a BLU/GRY" --Like that. That way, it makes this a lot easier to diagnose for you long-distance. You cannot give too much info when describing faults like this!
Please send more info, and I'll start doing some research unless someone better beats me to it. I'm on travel for another week, so I won't have access to my shop manuals (and car) until after the 13th.
Cheers! :cheers

You are correct in your camera orientation guesswork, but here is a larger frame. These four wires are the only ones in the small wire loom. The small wire loom that the connector shown and these wires are in come out of the larger wire loom that I have draped over the front of the engine. The larger loom continues with the wire connectors to the front air bag sensors, which are on the rear of the front bumper bar. The connectors on the left side of the car are not the same as these. The wire loom on the right in the smaller picture is where the PUR/BLK wires are.
The wires to the connector shown are GRN/BLK and the bare wires are PUR/BLK. Hopefully this will lead you in the right direction... if not, let me know anything else you may need.
thanks, I really appreciate it!!

The additional picture will help a lot. I'll get to work on it after I return home next week.

Rod,
The manual verifies the purple/black wires are for the right/front fog lamp. The connector part number you need is (OEM) 12059183. Its called a 2-way F metri-pack 280 series sealed connector. Pin A (right side on the connector face/front view) is for the purple wire, and B is for the black (ground) wire. For comparison purposes, the left/front fog lamp uses purple and black wires wired to the same pins.
Hope this helps!

thanks a LOT!! I had my suspicions that that was what it went to, but just wanted to make sure. BTW... could you either post or email (mtrocket@juno.com) a picture of the engine compartment, mainly from engine forward? Hopefully this will give me some reference for when I put this beauty together...

Sign up in photobucket.com and upload a pic into your album, then dowload it into this thread and it will be as big or bigger than the this whole area. Much better to identify the area and wires then.
There are other threads that explain exactly how to do this picture uploading and downloading. It is a little complicated, but once done is well worth it.
