Hi I have recently bought a 2005 XLR with only 16K miles on it, Tires are factory original & still have good thread on them but are 4 years old.

Should I change them or run them flat??

Thanx

Here is how I feel about tires. The old "dry rot" is a very true statement. The way to prevent tires from cracking and checking and of course lasting longer is to DRIVE YOUR CAR! Try and never let your car sit more than 3-6 weeks. Take it out and drive it at speed 5-10 miles minimum. That way all of the rubber molecules will rebond together and stay that way. I once had a 46 jeep with 40 yr old tires and looked pretty good but cracked and checked. I only drove it once on back roads to my summer farm 10 miles away. When I got there the good looking cracked tires were now worn down to bare threads! If your tires pass inspection and there is no unusual wear I dont see a problem. The tires WILL TELL you by wear patterns what is going wrong with them. Remember: DRIVE YOUR CAR!! Good Luck jim f

As long as you don't see any problems with the tires and the car drives fine, then I wouldn't see any reason to replace them. 4 years isn't that old.

Q8,
8 years is about the time you should replace an even good looking tire so you have 4 years to go:jester
