: 2004 Headlight buring the plastic.
AMARKO 05-12-2008, 08:52 AM Im having an issue with my XLR I noticed the Daylight (turn light) is buring the plastic. I took it in to the dealer and they do not want to replace it... its under GMPP, and I notced a lot of people have had problems with this too... any ideas anyone?
Thanks
homegameroom 05-12-2008, 11:09 AM Go up the chain of management at the dealer and/or print out one of the MANY posts on this forum about headlamp replacement. There may even be a Service Bulletin about it, but I'm not sure.
They have almost definately replaced others' headlamps, particularly if they have a CERTIFIED XLR technician.
I've had mine replaced on my 04 with no arguments.
cadillac tech 05-12-2008, 11:13 AM There isn't a bulletin on this condition, but many have been replaced. How many miles do you have on the car? GMPP can be difficult sometimes to deal with. What state are you in?

That's really pretty funny/sad, as they have probably replaced most, if not all, of the lights in 04's.

RickH 05-13-2008, 02:19 PM I've got a certified '05 XLR. About a month after I bought from a dealer, I brought it to another dealer who is closer to my home. Both of the lenses on the running light were burned. They replaced both of them under the warranty
As far as them never having seen it before, that's a lot of baloney. You can even buy used replacement headlights on EBAY and if you look closely at the pictures, all of them have the burned daylight lamp.
You might want to find the string about this on the Forum, print it out and bring it to your dealer. If it's broken, and under warranty, I don't see how they can tell you they won't fix it.
Toffolo1 05-13-2008, 03:34 PM Both of mine were replaced under warranty. It sounds like your dealership does not want to get involved.

Doesn't surprise me. :rolleyes
XLR KEN 05-13-2008, 05:02 PM Here ya go. I found the Thread where a lot of discussion was regarding the melting of the headlight lenses.
http://www.xlrforum.com/showthread.php?t=1585
If you ran a poll, I'd say that over 50 % of all active XLRFORUM members have had their headlights chanced out UNDER WARRANTY.
Don't give up on your Dealer doing it. Start at the Service Manager and keep going up.:thumbs
Later,
XLR KEN (with new lenses installed)
Xccelerator 05-13-2008, 07:33 PM I'll be honest and say I did not notice the problem until i read a post about it several moths ago. When I brought it up at my last service appt tey checked and said there was no service bulliten on the problem and they'd have to look into it. When I picked up the car they replaced both lights and did a decent job on the fitting (be sure to read the other posts about the trim kit required to get them to fit properly). When I asked what they replaced them under they said there was another service bulliten for fogging and they just put it under that. I think unless you have a pretty good relationship with the service dept it's touch and go. Honestly why it's even an issue is beyond me, for this kind of money it should be a no brainer, and to say they've never heard of it is either a lie becuase they made a fix in the '05 to correct it. However, I have to say that it's actually more irritating to have them fixed becuase now I have to remeber to turn off the DRL's everytime I drive it for fear they're dong the same thing - because they will not make the other fix to reduce the voltage to the DRL's so it's just going to come back. Good luck though.
cadillac tech 05-13-2008, 08:12 PM I think the problem may be that the car is out of factory warranty and GMPP is not a bumper to bumper warranty, it is more for powertrain. GMPP doesn't want to replace them because they haven't failed (and the cost). The melted area doesn't affect the operation of the lamps it just looks crappy.

hamptonbeach 09-20-2008, 04:54 PM I have an 04 that I just bought.
It's out of warranty (1/08) and it is 7k over the 50k limit.
The recall for the loose bulbs had been done by the prior owner, but the lenses were melted.
My dealer told me the lenses were $1100 a pop. I complained and they told me Cadillac will eat the cost of the parts if I pay my dealer the labor ($285)
I considered that a fair deal ....

I think you are entitled to have them replaced for free under the recall bulletin.
EXISTING WARRANTY OR NOT--I would have your dealer contact Cadillac Customer Service and see what their opinion was NOT the local dealers.
If you go the the Technical section here you'll see a ton ofr replacements bing made for both the lenses and the power booster.

fredw 04-13-2009, 12:00 PM Once the assembly was replaced for other owners does it seem to fix the issue? Mine are now melted and I'm going back and forth w/GM to get them replaced. Just wondering if this will fix the issue or if I will have it again in the future (I only have 19K on my 2004)? Thanks
mtrocket 04-13-2009, 12:04 PM Yes, they are replaced with the updated version. 2004's also require a jumper harness for the correct electrical connectors.
Bill N 02-11-2011, 01:36 PM I had the same problem and my dealer (Dew Cadillac in St. Petersburg Fl.) stepped up to the plate and replaced the entire headlight assembly on my 05 xlr for the cost of labor only $250.00. I couldn't be happier. 65,000 miles
