I have previously posted a query for differences of the 05 and 06... I am not looking at an 04 and am wondering what are the big differences if any? Thanks.

Actually from year to year there can hundreds of changes, but most are very minor engineering teaks and upgrades. On the 05/06 XLR the most evident changes was the addition of the wood trim addded to the C/D section of the center stack.

Other big changes were the XM radio antennas added to the outside mirrors and removed off the decklid. As well as removing of the passenger air bag key switch in the glove box and making it a pressure sensitive switch built into the seat. Along with the notification moved from the console up to the rear view mirror.

For example, for 09 the supplier for the a vast majority of the electronic suspension and many other systems was changed from Dephi to Bosch. These types of changes are a lot more than just a vendo change, it has a direct influence on how the XLR feels and handles.

Not a big deal, but I thought the wood was added in '06.

I can get an 05 for 49k out the door (dealer).... what should prevent me from getting an 04 with 11k miles on it for about 39k (private)?

I guess you haven't read the many posts concerning the many '04 problems. :banghead

As stated many times do not buy a car that isn't Cadillac Certified! :nono

I bought an 04 a few months ago. I love it and have only had one issue. That being said, it was a major time-consuming issue regarding the top. If I had not bought a certified, I am sure it would be costing me a fortune to get it fixed. I highly recommend you only buy certified. There are plenty of these to be found that are certified, or being sold at a Cadillac dealer that can certify it for you for around $1000. I drove 5 1/2 hours to buy mine, and bought certified after reading the benefits on this forum. I am sure most of the people on this forum will stress BUY CERTIFIED.
