: Found a Low Milage 2005 XLR need advice for purchase
Q8KNIGHT 05-05-2008, 08:16 AM Hi I just found a beautiful Satin Nickel 2005 XLR with only 16K miles and a couple of months of warranty still remaining.
What do you guys think? I need some advice from guys with experience.
My other option is a 2006 Black XLR-V with 18 months of warranty left and lower miles, but its price is $15K more.
What do you think? Should I save the money and go with the 05? or go for the kill and get the "V"?
PS: I don't mind the XLR being slower and not so good in the corners like the "V" because I dont Race and dont go to any surcits, I just want a luxurious cruser that I can depend on as a daily drive.
Thanx
XLR_Lover 05-05-2008, 09:13 AM Q8,
Sooooo, you have the possibility to jump up a year, and into a "V," and with fewer miles for 15k, didn't you answer your own question?????:confused

SilverX 05-05-2008, 10:10 AM Are they certified by a Cadillac dealer? Can you get a Cadillac extended warranty?

Q8KNIGHT 05-05-2008, 10:25 AM Are they certified by a Cadillac dealer? Can you get a Cadillac extended warranty?
SilverX
Yeah they both have the cadillac warranty, I dont think they can be extended.
I know the XLR-V is a better car but $15K price difference is allot of money, and I dont know if it is worth it.
What does everybody else think?
RickH 05-05-2008, 02:45 PM WHOA THERE !!!! There is a big difference between the remainder of the Cadillac original warranty and a Caddy that is certified. Ask the dealer about this, or you can find info by using the Search feature on the Forum
standby 05-05-2008, 03:53 PM Yep, sure did Floyd............15k more for a V? Q-ball needs to launch an XLR then take out a V. He will be back in one day and say, "guess what I bought?"

Insufficient info. How much money, how many miles, etc., etc.
Based on what you've said, at least one of the cars' warranties may be extendable. If GM dealerships are involved, check with the person who handles the warranties (probably somebody in Finance) or call GMPP directly. As you may know from your C6 experience, there will likely be cheaper prices available on the internet, but that's a secondary concern.
If eligible, there are a number of alternatives with a number of price options. Prices do increase by significant steps at various mileages. One break point used to be at 24K, but the cars may not be on the same schedules.
You've got to drive the cars and compare them back to back with your C6 over the same exact roads. After that, it's up to you.
Q8KNIGHT 05-06-2008, 01:18 AM I know 2004 was the first year for the XLR and it had a few problems, but what about 2005? Have most of the problems been fixed?

'04 had many problems!
'05 cleared up most of them--if it were a late build.
I realize you seem to be on the fence concerning which model and year to put in your garage. The most important aspect of this decision, IMHO, is to be sure to get a Cadillac Certified car. It will free your mind of having to pay for any of the many problems these buggies are able to conjure up. I can't stress this enough!!!

I just double checked and it turns out the 05 has the cadillac warranty until march 2009, and the 06 has it until jan 2010.
XLR_Lover 05-06-2008, 08:32 AM They're just the standard factory warranties--keep looking!!
Unless you're buying from a Cadillac dealer and they're willing to Certify either car.
Floyd
RickH 05-06-2008, 09:51 AM I totally agree with Floyd. If it isn't a CERTIFIED Cadillac, keep looking. You will pay a little more for a CERTIFIED XLR, but if after the regular warranty is over, the top decides to go south while you are wanting it to go north:eek - you will be covered under the CERTIFIED warantee for much longer:)

Many Cadillac dealers will sell the car either way- certified or uncertified. The certification cost varies from store to store, and typically runs around $1800, plus or minus a couple of hundred dollars. If the one you want isn't certified, ask. Or vice versa.
According to a GMPP rep I spoke with, their Major Guard (extended) warranty covers the electrical part of the top mechanism, so that's another option.
standby 05-07-2008, 01:06 AM You give this guy an answer and he comes back wiith other stuff and doesn't even mention what we write here.
I think we are dealing with a wannabe here.

Q8KNIGHT 05-09-2008, 05:37 AM Dear XLRforum friends I want to thank you all for your help and support, the site and everybody in it was a treasure of information.
I have recently sold my corvette, a 2005 Arctic White MN6 widebody C6 coupe with 22K miles of smiles for $45K:

As a hobby filmmaker I have made many corvette short films and montages on my website and YouTube during the past 3 years of ownership:

But I guess I am still driving a C6 but in chassis only, because I went for it and bought the beautiful 2005 Satin Nickel cadillac XLR with only 16K miles and one year of dealer warranty on it for $47K:

You'll have to buy the extended warranty, but hopefully you won't need it.
Going to join us at RIII, now that you're a proud owner?
We'd all like to meet your new kid!!

XLR_Lover 05-09-2008, 07:30 AM Q8,
By the way, I checked out your videos/web site. . .pretty cool!! Relights the desire to get a companion for the "V," I think they would play nicely together!!!
Good luck with your X and your film career!

Q8KNIGHT 05-09-2008, 07:42 AM Thanx man, I am glad you liked my videos. BTW how can I get the cadillac logo on the nav screen what button do I have to push, I get it on the screen sometimes but how do I get it there?
Thanx
XLR28 05-09-2008, 11:05 AM That is the screen saver. It only appears when you do not 'agree' to the terms for the nav screen. Your best bet is to simply not agree initially and you will have it.
Otherwise, if both your driver #1 and #2 seat and mirror memory positions are the same, while driving you can select Driver 2 on your seat, then select Driver 1 again. It resets the acknowledgment and gives you the screen again.
Not the best or easiest solution, but it's the only one I've got to offer.
Lola's mom 05-09-2008, 11:23 AM Absolutely gorgeous car.
And all the advice you've got from the forum member's was given in the best of spirit ..... 'so glad to hear that you took advantage of all of their sage advice! But there is one more piece of advice you need to take ..... come to R3 and meet all of the guys that helped you out .... lifetime friends can me made there .... oh! and some road warriors to cruise with. XLR KEN 05-09-2008, 11:31 AM Beautiful Baby. I think you found a great car..........for a good road trip.
As many have mentioned the Rendezvous is a one in a lifetime event and it's not to late to sign-up. The CA Caravan has two already and three registered. You'll see a lot of beautiful countryside on the trip and your new ride will be mixing with another 70-100 of it's kin-folk.
Hope to see more of you and the car soon.
I have a suggestion: Film a documentary of your involvement in the Rendezvous and sell the rights to a cable network...................we'll all be stars! :thumbs

EXCELLENT idea. That's what SATURN did.
If you visit the GM Saturn Plant in Spring Hill TN, they have a video loop running in the Welcome Center of the first "Owners Reunion" held there at the plant around 15 years ago. It's a great film and documents all the festivities and owners coming in from around the country, and also the near-tornado winds and destuction they suffered during the event. Hopefully our RIII film would be all smiles and party-time.
standby 05-09-2008, 05:20 PM Yea, that tornado was on June 5th.:banghead EXCELLENT idea. That's what SATURN did.

tim harris 05-13-2008, 09:57 AM Q8, RIII in BG might present itself as a great Film opportunity. You are going to have somewhere between 7.5 millon and 10 millon dollars worth of XLRS and XLR-VS in one spot at the same time. There is a theme and story to be had, with the price of gas and all of our love of cars this will be a classic gathering. This is a one shot opportunity and should be recorded . Good luck with your XLR, Tim

Tim,
Us Harris' must think alike. Reference my "suggestion" in Post # 24 (same thread). Having Q8KNIGHT film RIII would bring out the XLR (and the event) to the masses.
