Guys and Dolls, I am looking to buy an XLR tomorrow and I have been seeking the answer to a question. What is the difference between a 2004, 2005 and 2006. I Googled and found pretty much nothing. I proceeded to call Cadillac (not the dealer) and they pretty much said that the Wood Trim in the center counsel and Adaptive Headlight system was the big difference. Can anyone answer this question? I am looking at a 2005 and 2006 both with low miles and cannot make up my mind.... Thanks in advance...

I think that one of the things you may want to consider is whether the car you choose is Cadillac Certified. I bought a "pre-owned" (geez I get a kick out of that term - we use to call them USED)

The warrantee on a Certified car is great and covers the top mechanism.

There was not much difference between the 2004 and the 2005. Changes in 2006 included the wood around the radio area, removing the xm bump and putting the antenna in the rear view mirrors, adaptive headlights, the telephone went to digital (instead of analog) and I believe there were a couple of changes in suspension or handling.

Is there a phone in the XLR?

Where is it located and how do you use it? do you have to put your "sim card" in it or can you use Bluetooth to make a call?

Thanx

Don't get me started about "sim cards" or Bluetooth. The XLR phone is one step up from a pair of soup cans and a loooong string in my opinion, but we all hope after six model years Cadillac will listen to their customers and install a bluetooth system.

The phone is integrated into the car. The "phone button" is in the rear-view mirror and the incoming audio comes through the speaker system. In fact, the entertainment system goes mute when the phone is in use. No SIM Card interfact, etc. You can either subscribe within your current provider or annual buy minutes.

The car originally came with an analog phone module, but it was necessary to have it changed out with a digital system to remain compatable with service providers. Cadillac helped with the change-over if you subscribed to OnStar.

Be sure that the car being purchased has the Digital Conversion. The Dealership should be able to verify by either physical configuration (P/N of Module) or by the Warranty History listed under the VIN.

Good Luck.

Generally speaking, and if the cars are identical (they never are), later models benefit from having whatever running changes and improvements have been made to the car (and build) up to that time- even within the same year.

That doesn't mean a later car will invariably be tighter and more trouble-free, however. Drive as many as you can: there's a surprising amount of variation, even for ones that roll off the line in sequence, if you're picky.

A small difference from 2004 to 2005 is that 2004 passive unlock cannot be programmed to unlock both doors. So, if my wife's along, I need to unlock her door with either the remote or the driver's door button.

I'll second all the 'buy certified' recommendations. I did, and my 2004 top NOW works flawlessly, after the dealer replaced bent struts and adjusted it correctly. Now all I need to do is follow up with the paint shop for the dings the roof received when it failed to latch down properly and the trunk lid closed on it...

My '04 might be a one of a kind, but it can be and is prgrammed to unlock the passenger door although is sometimes tempromental in doing so.

Nope, two of a kind, my 04 would unlock both sides too, but you have to program it to do so on your in car computer.
