: Tire Pressure all scan except RR???
tonypro99 05-03-2008, 03:58 PM I have some problems with the tire pressure sensor with my 2004 XLR. I got new rims for my XLR and they were changing all the tire pressure sensors over to the new rims and one of the pressure sensors broke off. So I had to get a new one but my dealership covered it under warranty. Well they put the new one in and went to program all of them but for some reason it won’t scan?? The LF, RF, LR all scan but the RR won’t pick up on the scanner? So they tried another one and the same thing that it won’t pickup in the scanner? So they told me that they are going to call a XLR technician in California to find out the problem. So when I got home I tried the magnet method myself to program the sensors and the same thing was happening all the ones were picking up except the RR??? I thought their scanning tool might be low on batteries but it’s not since the magnet method was working?
So if anyone has any inside on how to fix this problem that would be greatly appreciated!!!

xlrjim 05-03-2008, 10:10 PM Put the RR rim on another corner and see if it reads there. If so its a defective tranducer in the RR location. If it reads in the new location the tire pressure sensor in the RR rim is either not programmed or is defective.. Good luck
JIM
xlrjim 05-03-2008, 10:13 PM Per my above post. If the wheel works in the new position there is no problem with the TP sensor in that rim. If its bad in the new location then either its not programmed correctly or defective.
Oh well, another senior moment.

Jim's right I think. The RR might not be "assigned" to the RR location correctly.
It could still hold a signal from where it was (old one), The new one just needs to be "booted" and assigned or as Jim mentioned the sensors behind the tire sensor may be damaged.
I rotated my tires as I mentoned in a earlier post and forgot to have the sensors reassigned. So I was pumping air into a tire only to continue getting a low reading. I finally figured it out when the orginal location tire showed on the DIC that it had too much air in it.
When you get into these type of issues just ask yourself "WHAT WOULD BOBO DO" and then do the opposite. Ha, Ha.,

My guess is they are using the wrong year sensor as a replacement. I seem to recall that earlier models used a magnet where later models switched over to an RF scanner to reset them. Perhapz you now have a mix of sensors on your wheels.
Hope this helpz,

tonypro99 05-05-2008, 02:05 PM Hmm this never accord to me but if they just changed one of the sensors the newer style one and left the other 3 to the older style one would that make a difference for it not to be picked up?
I look at it this way: Three wheel sensors are speaking Spanish and one French. The onboard computer and reset scan tool are designed to speak Spanish too. Even though the 4th sensor may look similar, it may be speaking a language neither the car computer nor the reset scan tool can understand.
Do a search of the forum ... I believe you will find that Hans purchased wheels from a 2006 XLR-V that would not work on his 2004 XLR. After he changed the TPMS to the older model, they worked fine.
Hope that makes sense,

standby 05-05-2008, 04:30 PM You nailed it.............The parts guy has given him the wrong sensor. Tell him to check his numbers for the year, and if it's a V or a mormal XLR.

standby 05-05-2008, 05:16 PM Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the humor, but what if someone is on the forum for the first time.
I can always stop giving my opinion or how to fix something. I don't give bogus information, at least not intentionally.

tonypro99 05-05-2008, 06:18 PM So does anyone have the part number for the sensor thats proper for the XLR? I have part no.25758220 can anyone confirm this?
tonypro99 05-07-2008, 08:52 PM WOW got it all fixed it seemed that the dealership doesn't know how to use their own tool LOLOL. I went there this morning talked to my buddy whos a service advisor and asked if I could borrow his scanning tool and try it myself...Well entered the car into program mode and went and scanned all 3 rims that have the old sensors with the magnet and the RR I scaned with the tool and BAM! Got it programmed...my bud was blown away and so was all the other advisors and couldn't beleave that the techs working there for 20 years don't know this ****...I advised them that maybe they should get a technilogical upgrade lession.
One thing is bothering me thou now that they are all programmed the RR is showing pressure of 30 PSI constantly while the others are showing 35 PSI??? I checked the RR and its reading 35 PSI with the tire pressure gauge??? Any updates on this one???
standby 05-07-2008, 09:12 PM Yep...........check the other tires until you find the one that has 30lbs and that's the wheel that belongs on the RR. I've been wrong all day, but I think I got this one for you.

tonypro99 05-29-2008, 09:45 PM Hey while since I managed to get the tire pressure message off on the dash it still won't work properly.
If I put the car into Learn Mode and use the magnet on the other 3 wheels it works no problem but as soon as I get to the RR (the one I have been having problems with) and press activate like your post to do the XLR won't honk what so ever?? So when I get out of Learn Mode in the car it displays the Service Tire Monitor message again.
Now this is where it gets tricky...I put the car into Learn Mode again and this time I use the magnet but when I get to the RR (the one with the new sensor) I use the J46079 and go into simulate mode and simulate the sensor and for some strange reason I get a Honk from the XLR??
I do not understand why it's only reacting to the Simulate Mode and the Activate Mode? Please if someone could resolve this mystery to me that would be super...The only thing I have left to do is use another tire pressure sensor tool.
Tony- Have you considered the possibility that the "new" TPM sensor on the RR tire is not the right one for your 2004 XLR (as I suggested previously)? If you have an opportunity, read these two threads concerning similar issues: http://www.xlrforum.com/showthread.php?t=1390 http://www.xlrforum.com/showthread.php?t=529
It appears a few of us have confirmed the triggering method to reset the TPM has changed over the years. If you are getting the "beep" from the magnet on three wheels, but need to use the RF tool for the RR wheel, it seems you have a mix of sensors. With the mix of sensors, it also makes sense that the onboard computer might give an incorrect reading to that RR wheel ... As you have noted.
Also, consider giving Hans a PM to inquire about his ordeal of putting '06 XLR-V wheels on his 2004 XLR. I believe he needed to swap the TPMs in order to get the onboard computer to read them properly.
Good Luck,

cubby558 06-01-2008, 09:52 AM Tony,
:iagree with 427, when I switch out my rims for the OEM chrome wheels i had a bad sensor and they got the wrong sensor the first time and had to order me one for my '04. I would have them check to see you have the correct sensor.

427 - I love the name, also could be 396, 454 or a little smaller 327:thumbs
you are right, why not ask Hans and I`m able to help Tony.
The part # for the valves which fits the 04 board-computer is 25758221, I just looked up my bill from 2006.
Bob`s 06 wheel-valves didn`t matched my board-computer!!!!!
Hans
Hans- My man, you come thru in the clutch with the part number ... What a great forum and outstanding members! BTW- I had done an earlier search on a GM parts website for the 25758220 sensor (listed by Tony) and it indicated it was for 2004-07 XLR's. Checking a few different websites today, it is listed as "Tire pressure sensor, XLR 2006 - 2007". Using your part number (25758221) it is simply listed as a "sensor" (similar price).
Great job Hans,

Your result will be a "all OK now":thumbs

tonypro99 08-21-2008, 04:34 PM Yes it turns out that the XLR 04 needs tire pressure sensor 25758221.
