The dealer is recommending that I replace both air filters and get the throttle body and fuel injectors cleaned at 22,000 miles. Is this reasonable or a little early in the game?

If you commute from Baghdad to Basra during the windy season, yes!

--Otherwise the dealer should justify why they need to do this service. Pull the air filters and examine them, it's easy to do. If they aren't really bad, vacuum them from the inlet side. While you're at it, scope out the passenger side cabin filter; two clips pop up and allow easy access for inspection/cleaning. Check your recommended Service Intervals in your owner's manual, cleaning fuel injectors at 22k and throttle body isn't a normal scheduled maintenance item. How's your throttle response?

Thanks for the tips. I vacummed both air filters. They really weren't very dirty at all. The cabin filter was a little more dirty but cleaned up nicely.

I have had absolutely no idle, starting or performance problems with the engine. That's why I questioned the service recommendation.

The dealer has a new service writer.. Think he is a little agressive in his sales approach.

Thanks again, lady and gentleman.

Is your car out of warranty? The filters should be replaced free of charge.

Ruthie,

I certainly hope not--it takes all of 15 seconds to replace. . .:yesnod

Can someone tell me where the cabin filter is? I broke my foot so I'm not allowed down the stairs. She's got me pinned up in the living room. :rolleyes

The filter housing is on the passenger side fire wall.

Is your wife going to change the filter? If so, it's a piece-of-cake to do!

Feel better!!!

Thanks Floyd. Well I just wanted to check it. I may take a picture of it today.

Everybody's usage differs, and the quality of gas isn't a constant.

While the dealer-style fuel system cleaning might be overkill, you might want to consider using a good fuel system cleaner. GM's used to be p/n 12345515, iirc. I'm not sure what size the container is now; at one time, they had two different ones.

It's generally considered to be stronger than and preferred to Techron and, at one time, was only recommended for use once a year.

It's not as if the system and injectors either work or don't, it's a sliding scale, and the price of gas isn't getting any lower.
