: Watch DVD While Driving-Hack Code
randyd501 04-28-2004, 12:29 PM I used the same trick for the SRX hitting the sound button above the volume button I/O for 3 seconds. I put in the code 1791 which is the code for the SRX and hit enter.Hit the return button then the image button. It worked!!. Enjoy watching DVD while driving-BUT KEEP UR EYE ON THE ROAD!
Got my Video!
Randy
1_XLR 04-28-2004, 12:34 PM Thank You Randy!!!
I knew it was only a matter of time before someone figured a way around it
just didn't think it would be so easy......and inexpensive.
:party :party :party
randyd501 04-28-2004, 12:43 PM I almost threw in the towel and bought a separate DVD player. It is amazing that it worked!Only complaint you need to redo the code each time you restart.
Quixotic 04-28-2004, 01:40 PM Facinating!
1_XLR 04-28-2004, 03:10 PM TOO COOL!! :cool
Queen Concert DTS 5.1 surround sound with the picture!!!!
I just went out for lunch and never parked the car,
can't wait for a night drive!:thumbs
randyd501 04-28-2004, 03:19 PM Was the top up or down when playing? LOL!
1_XLR 04-28-2004, 03:39 PM I'm in Southern California :cool ....tops always down!!!
alk3997 04-28-2004, 04:34 PM 1_XLR - Are you sure that is the DTS surround track not the Dolby Digital track? If it is the DTS version I would like to know since that means an upgrade has taken place with the Nav/Radio unit.
1_XLR 04-28-2004, 05:26 PM I'm sure that it's a DTS 5.1 DVD,
as to what the system is actually playing,
I wouldn't know.
I went back and reviewed your original thread on this issue,
that prompted me to buy this particular DVD in the first place,
and I guess that it's Dolby Digital I'm hearing??
Sounds great either way!:thumbs
fredw 04-28-2004, 10:15 PM It works great! Next we need the hack code to input an address into the NAV system while driving :-)
BUDSVET 04-29-2004, 04:58 AM Yes it works. I haven't read the book yet, so what is the code screen for? :lurk
randyd501 04-29-2004, 07:04 AM It is the diagnostic screen for the NAV?DVD unit
pamlicopirate 04-29-2004, 08:07 AM thanks for the fix. Not being a movie buff but wife shure likes to watch while we take long trips. :party
lady_phoenix 04-30-2004, 10:19 AM I used the same trick for the SRX hitting the sound button above the volume button I/O for 3 seconds. :nono
I have no problem while watching the thing while driving, but do you realize that it is illegal in some states to have a television in the front and watch it while driving? NOT to mention the serious repercussions of getting into an accident and then trying to sue the pants off of Cadillac because of something you did? Think twice people. Look ahead!
randyd501 04-30-2004, 10:23 AM It is also illegal to switch lanes without signaling, going over the speed limit, and yes watching TV while driving---obviously use caution!
1_XLR 04-30-2004, 01:45 PM ....and we won't be able to sue Cadillac
they covered their butts
we'll need to sue Randy:iagree

1_XLR 04-30-2004, 02:54 PM so far I've only watched concerts,.

Animal House just might be the ticket!!:lurk
lady_phoenix 05-03-2004, 12:12 PM I claim insanity
Not being able to watch Animal House in my XLR!
I hope you have fat pockets.
coolcat 05-19-2004, 01:21 AM TOO COOL!! :cool
Queen Concert DTS 5.1 surround sound with the picture!!!!
I just went out for lunch and never parked the car,
can't wait for a night drive!:thumbs How did you get DTS surround sound? Does this system have a built-in DTS processor? Or did you have one installed? :confused
Eyedoc 05-19-2004, 06:02 AM I got this DVD when I saw it mentioned in the string.
The DVD sounds much better than the CD's I have. You do hear the surround effects, moving from right rear to left front, and bouncing around.
It is pretty awesome.
Having the DVD video running while you drive is a distraction and I have stopped doing it, but the code does work.
Black Widow 06-14-2004, 10:29 PM A couple of audio questions for you all:
First, Do you think I need to take my car in what sounds like a speaker issue? No matter how I set the sound system, I occasionally hear the rear speaker behind the driver cut in and out randomnly. It sounds like there is short in the speaker. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Secondly, I tried to play a CDRW disc and all I got was a CD Error code. Does our system not play CDRW's?
Third, how is everyone's AM reception under bridges? My XM is flawless, but my AM gets very staticky under bridges here in Chicago.
Anxious to hear your comments--
Black Widow in Chicago
Eyedoc 06-15-2004, 06:05 AM I haven't had a car that receives AM well in years and just give up and expect poor sound (obstacles, overhead wires, etc).
Speaker does sound like a end device issue, unless you are playing a 5.1 Dolby DVD or something.
The issue I am having is that I don't see that the speed/noise compensation does not seem to work. I'm planning on having them look at it on my next service visit.
I have to use the wheel volume controls quite a bit when speed increases. The speed compensation on my 1991 Corvette works better.
pamlicopirate 06-15-2004, 10:54 AM I have not had any audio problems except playing CDRs. They all always play but at some point generally toward the end it will skip or not be able to read the disc. The more songs on the disc the more likely it will skip.
alk3997 06-15-2004, 01:05 PM Let me throw out a few pieces of "wisdom" I've learned in talking with dealers/developers about the audio system. Actually all of you can decide whether or not it is wisdom :D
1) The unit will play CD-Rs but not CD-RWs.
2) When playing CD-Rs you are taking a slight risk. A CD-R is not officially supported. One of the techs at my dealer has told me that the steering wheel controls and radio/nav system can occasionally hang if a CD-R is used. I looked at him like he was crazy but since I've stopped using CD-Rs, I've haven't had a hang-up (I did when I had two CD-Rs in the unit). If the unit hangs, a simple disconnect of the battery solves the problem.
3) Intermittent speaker problems can be caused by loose wires or bad amplification circuitry. Since the DVD system is not a true 5.1 channel system, but rather a complex matrixed surround system I would be surprised if it turns out to be a source material issue (the CD or DVD). Ususally on a matrixed surround you'll always hear something (except for a mono source) - the level will change but there will always be a sound.
4) I found the noise compensation system to be over exagerated. I'd rather adjust the volume myself. If you aren't hearing any change, then I suspect there is something wrong (I think there was another thread where someone mentioned the same symptom). Have the dealer check the circuit including the microphone. The noise compensation system is the only part of the XLR I've been disappointed about (the ones in $10K cars work better).
Black Widow 06-16-2004, 11:08 PM Thanks for the info guys---
So far I'm really enjoying the car; I just wanted to see if it was something I could fix before taking it to the dealer.
I'll stop with CDRW's in the car.
Black Widow in Chicago
bk454 06-21-2004, 08:33 PM I'm amazed that a car of the expense and magnitude would have any problem with CDRs. I don't have an XLR yet, but am considering one.
I am currently driving my 2002 GMC Envoy. It has the best factory audio system I've ever heard, maybe better than the XLR. For almost three years I have used CDRs, that I have recorded myself on my PC, almost exclusively and have never had a problem, not even a skip except over a good bump. That has happened just a few times.
alk3997 06-22-2004, 01:23 PM Yes, I undestand exactly what you are saying, bk454. The CD-Rs will play and play fine but there was that warning...
I'm running another "test" right now and so far, after a couple of weeks of use, I haven't had any issues again. I've been reviewing a mix (on a CD-R) so the time in the XLR is too valuable not to use.
I'll post if I have any CD-R related problems.
Quixotic 06-22-2004, 03:42 PM I refuse to put original CDs in any of my cars, since heat, etc. can warp them. I have not had any problems with CDRs. I've not tried CDRWs. I'd be more interested in what people have tried in the various DVD formats and how that has worked.
wwashing 07-27-2004, 09:13 AM ....and we won't be able to sue Cadillac
they covered their butts
we'll need to sue Randy:iagree
Nope can't sue GM, but anyone who's watching a movie and wrecks should prepare to signover all their belongings :yesnod to anyone esle who's life they screwed up because while watching a movie they drove into them.
Quixotic 07-27-2004, 04:51 PM Apparently it has finally happened. Police arrested some guy for supposedly watching a DVD while driving, drifting across the center divider and killing someone. I do not have much of the facts, only a brief mention on the news this morning. The guy claims he was only listening to a CD. The police want to charge him with murder.

First case of this kind
aviator 07-30-2004, 04:41 PM You think playing a movie is more or less distracting than doing the following while driving: having an intense discussion on a cel phone, spilling coffee in your lap, putting on mascara, spanking kids in the back seat, having a barking dog bouncing across the front seat, reading the paper, or a book?
I see each of these things almost every day on the freeway - and its virtually always true when someone is driving like a bonehead.
Nowadays with all the personal injury lawyers running around, you can count on getting your pants sued off for any accident where you are at fault.
The proper risk management strategy is to minimize distractions - including playing movies on the DVD in our XLR.
But just for giggles, I've got to try my McCartney "Back in the USA concert DVD" with my main squeeze, on a lonesome road, at night, top down, cool wind, a million stars....oh yeah!
It was such a memorable concert. Thanks for the tip Randy. :thumbs
aviator 08-05-2004, 01:19 PM Well I did it. 11:30pm. Lonesome Road. Top down. Randy's hack code works. McCartney on the DVD is awesome at night.
I recommend that you don't try this at home. Aviator is a highly trained instrument rated pilot accustomed to operating aircraft using an "instrument scan". ;)
With that being said, the DVD playing is definitely a distraction. I would have enjoyed the show more if the car had been parked somewhere watching airplanes land. (Hey, I'm a pilot. What do you expect?)
The bride was nervous about me being distracted, so she would have enjoyed it more had we been parked.
The mosquitos around here would have enjoyed it more had we been parked, too. And that's why we werent.
aviator.
bob swersky 08-05-2004, 01:42 PM Reccomend you press Cadillac and ASC for a DVD showing how to manually raise or lower the top in emergencies. That could be very, very important. Bob@Windbaffle ;) ;) :yesnod
:flag
aviator 08-23-2004, 05:09 PM I thought I'd resurrect this old thread for all the new XLR owners on the forum.
If you drill down in this thread, there is a Hack Code for playing a DVD while driving. There are also stern admonishments!
While somewhat distracting, and maybe a little dangerous, there is enough outlaw :reddevil left in this old Aviator to think this is cool.
This is not as dangerous as BUDSVET driving 150 mph westbound on I-10 in the desert. But I wouldn't want to be in the car if he was doing this at the same time.
Since it is irresistable, I've decided to relegate this outlaw function to concert DVD's, open top night driving, safe speeds and open roads.
Its easy, it works, and its cool. Don't show it to the kids. :D
dewey 08-24-2004, 01:52 PM has anyone found any other codes, such as using the nav while driving?
randyd501
I was hoping I would find a forum like this out there. I just got the 2005 STS...and have the same DVD issue. I want to crack the code/security so i can watch movies while the car is not in park......I read your posting but I dont think it will work in my car......not sure if it is the same code 1791 or whether all I need to do it hit the volume button (I m not sure the car has the same buttons as the SRX)....you wisdom is appreciated in advance
Eyedoc 10-12-2004, 07:06 AM Somewhere bin this thread or another, someone mentioned thast the hack code worked on other Caddie models.
The ones I have looked at all seem to have similar displays, if they have Nav.
