: Programing 2008 FOB for a '04 XLR???
Q8KNIGHT 04-17-2008, 07:54 AM Hi can I Program a new 2008 FOB for a '04 XLR???
What is the procedure and will it then be as FOB#3 or can I reprogram it to be FOB#1 or FOB#2 to have customizable settings?
Thanx
homegameroom 04-17-2008, 08:20 AM Sorry, you can't program the sweet new 08 fobs for an 04.
Q8KNIGHT 05-10-2008, 05:23 AM what about 2005's

homegameroom 05-10-2008, 07:54 AM If you want to change the look, you can put it into an 05-ish STS key fob, but you won't get the additional functions, like the remote start or panic button, even though you'll have the buttons for it.

PS YOU MUST TAKE THE GUTS OUT OF THE "NEWER" STYLE FOB and replace it with the guts from your XLR fob. This is a cosmetic change only!!
Mr XLR 05-10-2008, 09:36 AM 2004 is a unique system, the remote may look the same as 04/07 but 04 has a different programing system. 05 to 08 do use the same type of programing system, but a bigger issue is that the key cylinders in the rear bumper, glovebox would need to be changeed in the 05/07 to work with the different key blank used in the 2008 model.

tim harris 05-10-2008, 10:15 AM Hi Allen, I just read your response to the issue of FOB'S. Reading between the lines, Is there any chance that the remote start program is included in the software of 06 model years and that it could be accesed by a 08 FOB??? If not , is the new software available to be put in a 06 XLR-V for remote start???? I am very much looking forward to meeting you in Bowling Green , you always come up with the answers to some tough questions. Tim
Mr XLR 05-10-2008, 10:54 AM Hi Tim,
Im sorry to say, the lower speed wiringin the XLR does not allow for remote capability. The STS in 2005v was the first vehicle to use multiple high speed LAN lines for their electronics. Vehicles that were redesigned after that point had remote start availabity.
Since the Items such as electronics of any type are usually integrated into many systems on a vehicle they are updated and changed when a next generation is produced.
I also look forward to finally meeting you, after many years of working with the XLR (2000 in a focus group in Santa Monica, CA behind glass walls showing potential interiors of the XLR) I have become quite close with so many people here.

After learning that I needed all new keys and locks in addition to the new '08 remote, I eventually found a set on ebay and put them away for a project day...
Tonight I tried to program the '08 fob in my '06 XLR-V and I'm happy to say that it works fine.
Now I just have to replace the lock cylinder in the glove box and the bumper... frankly, I'm not looking forward to removing the rear bumper cover, but hopefully it won't be much of a big deal... :)

Just please be sure to lubricate the lock and tumblers real well. Especially the rear bumper one. I used WD-40 on the straw.
OH yea, it didn't solve the sitting in your seat with the keys in your pocket and the alarm button gets pushed issue. It sure shocks anyone around the car when it goes off.
