With the economy the way it is there is great news for the XLR and Cadillac. In sales below are the CYTD results per car line by percent of Cadillac sales objectives.
Escalade (All models) 73% of Objective

SRX 82.4% of Objective

DTS 100.9% of Objective

STS 103.7% of Objective

CTS 103.7% of Objective

AND our XLR topped the charts for Cadillac at 104.6% of sales objective.

One more great positive for the XLR, there is such a strong request for the XLR, Cadillac had to cancel over 300 orders from dealers for the 2008 XLR models, as they were not going to be able to build them before the change over.

Total Luxury Market
Only Mercedes-Benz was up in sales for CYTD sale at a very modest growth. Two of our biggest competitors Lexus & BMW had significant losses

Mercedes Benz +3.0%
Cadillac -.03%
Infiniti -.04%
Audi -2.2%
Volvo -7.9%
Lexus -9.5%
BMW -13.4%
Acura -14.0%
Lincoln -18.9%

Allen,

Me, being just a car buyer and not into sales jargon, I'm assuming "CYTD" stands for "Current Year to Date." Right?

Also, how are you made aware of what other car companies are expected sell? I would think they would like to keep those numbers on the inside.

Floyd,
You were so close at "Calendar Year To Date" All auto companies disclose their monthly and yearly stats to each other.

Allen:
I appreciate the stats but if memory serves, this year, we are only at about 30% of sales that they did for model year 2006. So, even though Cadillac is above 100% of their sales projections, sales are way off from two years ago. It's still pretty depressing to me, anyway.

Duh................... "Dumbing down" is the way to get the marks.

If you can't make the marks, change the standard. It's become the American way. In industry, forecast low and you're a winner by getting mediocre performance and "exceeding expectations."

Allen, 104.6% sounds good, but 104.6% of what? How many XLR units were built compared to the number of units produced by each of the competitors? Maybe Caddy has a good number, maybe it doesn't. A percentage number like this doesn't tell anything. The lower the number for the sales objective, the higher the percentage can be. This is smoke and mirrors.

I just read in another string on this site, from 1701, that "The XLR is slated to be discontinued by 2010, 2011 the latest." Have you heard anything about this?

I really like the uniqueness of the car and I would hate to see it discontinued, especially when the car was hardly promoted by GM, at least I've never seen a commercial about the car. (Okay, I did see about 2 secs of it in a generic Caddy commercial)

I would be willing to bet that the sales goals are set based upon normal patterns of new car sales, taking into consideration how long it has been since the introduction of the product line. New cars have to sell in a predictable pattern of relatively high sales in the first two years of model introduction, then decrease over the lifespan of the car (with a litte perk up with a refresh). More troublesome in this data is the incredible weakness in the SUV sales that GM and other carmakers have seen. For most car companies, these product lines are their only profitable ones......Escalade 73%, ouch......
