hi i found a beautiful Grey '04 XLR with 40k miles on it.
what features do the newer (05-08) XLR's have that this one doesnt?
where there any recalls for the '04's?
are there any electrical problems with this model?
thanx

Looooong story short:
If the car is priced really good and it is Certified it would probably be ok to buy.
It would be time very well spent to spend some time reading this Forum.

You can research your vin number and see how many of the many repairs the previous owner had already done. I suspect that with 40 K mi most of the ghost's have been found and repaired. Make sure you see all the service records, read this forum like Floyd said and make sure its certified or at very best the GMPP full service contract that covers most of all the big ticket items. I have an 04 that was lemoned and I still bought it, all things were repaired and I love it.

is there a way to read diagnostic codes by pressing some buttons like in c5 corvettes?

Unfortunately, with all the complex computer systems that the car has, the simple ability to display the error code is not among them.

because the check engine sign came up and the DIC said "check gas cap" so i opened it and closed it, the message was gone but the check engine light was still there!
Also I noticed the speedometer was set to metric (Km/h) but at the same time the HUD was in english units (MPH)?!? Can you have them both at different units? or is that probably the electronics screwing around?
BTW does the '04 have a multi colored HUD?

No data on the English/Metric issue, but as I understand it the 'multi-colored' display doesn't mean it will display in anything other than monochrome (Green), but rather that along the sides of the main green graphical display there is a red warning light to let you know when your ACC is sensing a dangerous situation and alerting you.
This Green HUD with a Red warning light is equiped on my 05 and I assume on all 04's as well. Personally I don't have experience with the newly toted 'multi-colored' HUD, but after hearing Mr XLR respond to someone else trying to change the color from green, I think I am right.
