: Delay and weird noise when trying to accelerate
nhowe 03-24-2008, 12:22 AM So this has happened 3 times now to me. I am driving a brand new 2008 XLR.
When i am going somewhat slow 20 or 30 mph then i push the petal to accelerate the car makes a deep "bogged down" or "flooded" sound... I usually have to let off and push the gas 3 or 4 times then finally it kicks back in and will accelerate. It is a very odd feeling, almost like the engine is flooded or the car wont shift up (im not really sure)
Today i pulled out infront of somebody then could not accelerate... it was a little scary... I want to know the car will go when i tell it to!! Especially when trying to pass or pulling out into that crazy LA traffic!!
I notice this has only happened to me when my car is around a quarter tank left.
Anybody have this happen or any ideas??
Best Regards,
Nate
tonypro99 03-24-2008, 02:09 PM Go see the dealer this is not normal my friend.
XLR I FL 03-24-2008, 03:38 PM Yup!! Take it to a dealer right away!!!! There could be a TON of reasons but they will be able to find it.
Regards
SilverX 03-24-2008, 05:16 PM Let us know what happens at the dealer..!
Good luck.

556393 03-24-2008, 07:45 PM Try turning off your traction control and see that changes anything. If you have the steering wheel turn and step on it, it will puke because it thinks you are out of control.
tonypro99 03-25-2008, 01:07 PM funny thing lolol my tranny just went on my car after I read this post what freakin bad luck :bs but oh well at least I get a new transmission but my 04 has had so many problems its not even funny. I called up Cadillac Customer Service and they will be calling me back on what they can offer me. Since there are no lemon laws in Canada it's going to be funny on what I can do?
Lola's mom 03-25-2008, 03:14 PM When we post problems, it would be helpful to post year of car, mileage, and driving habits .... i.e. .... it seems as though when cars have a few thousand miles on them, most of the problems disappear .... it would be nice to figure out if we have common denominators with some of these problems ...
We have about 33,000 miles on Lola .... she is driven daily .... short hops and also hits the freeway a couple of times a week. Her new problem is the intermittent pully sound .... which, of course, we can never get her to duplicate when we have scheduled appointments at the dealership. Seems like it always occurs when the dealership is closed .... or when we are away from home. :banghead

Tek King 05-13-2008, 09:13 PM This may be the same issue I am experiencing, if I am making a right or left turn, from a full stop then accelerate more than 1/2 gas pedal, my X makes a rumbling noise and slows down even if I continue to hold down the accelerator. More than once I pulled out in front of traffic thinking I would be able to accelerate into the flow of traffic easily with 320 horses at my disposal but was nearly killed by oncoming traffic when the car stopped accelerating and bogged down. At first I thought it was the rear end locking up or traction control kicking in but today I paid closer attention to what was occuring while testing in an area with no traffic. It seems like its the stability control activating the brake on the opposite front wheel, I assume that it does this because some sensors are thinking I'm out of control. If anyone from the engineering team is reading this, you need to reprogram the software to account for acceleration, it is causing a serious safety issue. My previous vehicle was a BMW 750i which also had stability control and pleanty of HP but it never braked so aggressively when accelerating, it only activated when I was travling at speeds of 40 mph or greater while entering a curve, that does actually help. I guess I'll have to turn off the Stabilitrak every time I get into the car if I don't want to get into a serious accident since I live in an area where I need to get up to 50 mph from a stop while turning and there is rarely a long break in the traffic to accelerate slowly.

XLR KEN 05-13-2008, 09:45 PM Tek King,
If you're lucky enough to have a repeatable anomoly, I'd suggest taking it to the dealership pronto. Make them test drive it with you as co-pilot and show them the conditions and results.
What drives most of us crazy is when there's a transmission slip, squeak or "noise" that can't be repeated in when being test driven by the Service Dept.

Mr XLR 05-13-2008, 10:56 PM Many times, this condition could be caused by a chatter in the rear end. I would recomend having your dealer flush it out and refil the rear differential. This has been a fairly common situation on 04/05s and usually a flush and refill takes care of the growl, grind and chatter.

standby 05-14-2008, 12:05 AM I disagree with you on this one.:nono You turn off the traction control, you'll find yourself in a heap on the side of the road, this vehicle doesn't do well with the traction control off, granted I own a V and have a few more ponies that can get out of hand.
I can attest to this since mine turned off by itself because it didn't like a maneuver I made, I also didn't like the way I lost it up against the curb turning from a light and then jump the curb and there I sat on the sidewalk.
My car has never "puked" on any kind of a maneuver. You have a problem that needs to be solved by a tech.
My .02 cents

556393 05-17-2008, 11:08 AM Yea, the car will get sideways on you in a hurry...V or standard. Thats why there is the traction control system in the first place. But in my `06 if I leave my traction system on and try to turn from a corner to enter traffic with moderate to heavy gas it will bog down until I let up off the pedal. Since I`ve turn off the traction control now when I enter the car, I have had no repeated bog down problems . Every car is just a little bit different and maybe, this doesn`t apply to every car with a bog down problem...... this just what I have learned. The sun is out and goodbye.
standby 05-17-2008, 12:53 PM I repeat:nono ..................This car has a serious problem and should be attended to post haste. The kind of power that the HP XLR has, can get you in trouble as fast as the 443 XLR-V. Your flirting with disaster by turning the traction control off.
With my button on the console, I can put the car into "Aggressive driving mode which basically takes everything off, which would be, T/C and stabilitrak, but I would only use this in a "get down the straight road quick" type of scenario.
It's your car, I just hope I don't meet you coming down the road sideways.
