: XLR through the years...

Is there a handy place to see XLR changes through the years? Has the engine, transmission, suspension, interior, etc changed much through the life? Any options to "must have" or avoid? What about the V? Has it always been the same HP, etc?
Trying to get educated, thanks for any help.

Bruce,

Since the XLR's introduction in '04 and the "V" in '06 the changes have been very minimal. Mostly "bug" removal from the first editions.

There are no available options; the only option available is moving up to a "V". Which I see, by doing a bit of reading from some recent posters, doesn't make a lot of sense. I beg to differ, as there are also after market options to make the "V" even more untouchable! I think it would be very safe to say none of the "V" owners would trade for a base model. Sound smug? No, just the truth--that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Bruce,

Floyd is right. Besides the V series which is a significant option (supercharged engine), the rest of the variations to the base model are minor in nature. There has been some limited edition series, such as Star Black, Neiman Marcus and now Alpine White. The middle entry is the Platinum Edition which raises the trim level and adds chrome grille and rims.

Thanks guys. Corvettes tend tend to see upgrades during their cycle life, interior, horsepower, etc, so I wanted to find out if the XLR had similar revisions. I need to drive a few of each, but I'm leaning towards selling the Corvette and stepping all the way up to a V. But the flip side is there are some decent deals on '04's & 05's that would let me keep the Corvette. Thanks for the info and I'll be reading lots of posts and asking questions, maybe take in some local events.

Bruce,

You won't be sorry if you "step all the way up to a "V"." But as I've mentioned here in the past try to avoid an 04, read and you will see why.

Good luck,

It looks like mostly small changes over the years, the 6 speed trans seems like it would be nice if I can afford to get that new of one. The entire project may wait for a while as we just remodeled our bathrooms. This way I'll have time to learn more, and perhaps drive a few more. Part of me feels kind of funny looking and driving a Cadillac, guess I've been a Chevrolet guy so long I really feel like I'm standing out. Just an odd feeling. Work would flip out, even though several of us are car guys to some degree.

I know exactly how you feel, I've owned a bunch of Vettes, so making the changeover to a Caddy took some mental adjustment. But, once you slide your fanny (oops, "Vs" don't count here, can't slidein a "V") into an XLR and take her for a spin (this is after you've plunked down your $$$$$ and you own her) you won't think you're in your grandfather's Cadillac!

Although you may possibly get that feeling should your baby need service and they loan you one of the tanks they make. I kinda slouch down on the drive home.
