Here's the first shots of the 2009 Cadillac XLR. Looks like it'll be getting more of the CTSexiness that is the newly-revised "Art & Science" design language, plus those lame faux-chrome side vents:

A new grille design ... that could be very interesting ... I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing what is under those covers ... :yesnod ..... I wonder if those pictures were taken on the test track that we got to drive last year at R2. Well, just another reason to be going to R3 :thumbs

I sincerely hope they didn't make it too CTSish--don't like the bulkiness, especially the grille and the protruding dash!!! Not to mention the faux side vents!! :eek :eek

Ha-ha, Floyd .... if Cadillac is monitoring this sight at all, they will surely strip those side vents BEFORE production!

I'm okay with the leather (not the Velcro V) .... would love to see a big upgrade to it's nav screen ... and definitley :iagree with new wheels. Oh, and c'mon, we need some more ports for our stuff .... and wouldn't it be nice if the car CAME with a windscreen?

I'd be happy if the CD player played "home-made" CDs. Even my $17.77 CD player from WalMart will do that. Whoever provided the CD player to Cadillac should be ashamed.

You know-------there are a lot of tweaks that Caddy has missed on this car, and yet we love it.

It will be interesting to see the new "updated" version at B.G. this summer. I hope it will meet current owner expectations - if not I hope that we have the guts to tell the Caddy reps that we are disappointed and be able to give them the reasons why (although a quick look through the Forum should give them a great list to start with.)

Stick on side vents?:puke No thank you

FLoyd, I have an idea that GM didn't listen to a word we said last year at BG................. Faux vents? Oh yea, lets junk it up. Those pics of the 2009 show me nothing. As for me, I can wait to see it hit the dealers floor, even if it's next summer.

Bobo,

Unfortunately, you're probably correct!! Gee, why would they listen to the people who lay out the cash???

Change for change sake rarely accomplishes the intended goal. . .

Please remember, this is a mid-cycle enhancement, not a new vehicle like the CTS. Things that would be changed would be similar too the mid-cycle 2008 STS. Items such as new dash looks (other than possible wood changes or maybe a new cluster) any components that have extreme complexity in fitting together would be exclusive to an all new model like the CTS.

STS and SRX sales have dramaically improved due to the new exterior looks, we are looking for a more of a family look on all Cadillacs. We can expect these revisions to be on the XLR.

Well, I didn't buy the XLR because it looked like a "family car" - in fact I bought it for the exact opposite reason ..... I totally disagree with that thinking .... and that's my 2 cents! :D

Ruth Ann,
We dont mean a family car, but a look that flows with the rest of the vehicles in our line. This way when someone looks at an XLR, they will say that's a Cadillac! We don't want people not knowing who builds the XLR.

The previous CTS and STS models had a front ends that were very similar to the XLR, that was designed under the original "Art & Science" theme. Now we are taking the crisp sharp looks of the XLR and giving it a bolder more agressive look. After 5 years it is time for a updating.

Well, Allen ... then I will wait until BG to submit my final 2 cents .... but, I rather like that people have to ask me what kind of a car it is and that they are always surprised when I tell them it is a Cadillac .... I like that uniqueness and the fact that it didn't look much like a Cadillac until they revamped the CTS. And, I am still going to hold firm on the side vents .... that would be a NO. But ... I do get where you are coming from .... not everyone will agree .... :jester

Although, I don't think when you look at a Corvette that your think of the rest of the Chevy line ....

Nope, I don't agree. Although all it would take, if they really wanted the XLR to survive, would be to let people know it exists! The old saying holds true: "You've got to spend money to make money."

Yes, it is kinda fun to have people come up and ask "what kind of car is this?" In fact it happened just today waiting in the line to get out of the parking lot at the Yankees game.

I think we all feel the XLR, as Caddy's flagship should stand alone, with very few parts belonging to the "Family." Especially the black sheep part of the family, which includes the faux vents!!:rant

I'm sitting here reading all of this and thinking that perhaps we just need to wait until the "Grand Unveiling" at RIII. It could be that the Caddy Boyz stuck those awful side vents on the XLR just to throw the spying shutterbugs off.

I can guarantee you this, if they unveil the 09 and it has size vents, you'll know where I am in the crowd as I will be the loudest one laughing. :glol

If you want to have a car with side vents, may I suggest a '49 Buick Roadmaster

Floyd,
We have a long way to go before we have mud flaps, suction cup birds on the windows, fox tails on the antenna's and lets not forget that spare tire sitting on the rear bumper. OK, dice on the rear view mirror and a spinner knob on the steering wheel.
I may not make the BG3 but I'm sure I can count on the forum to let me know just what they have and have not done to appease us.Nope, I don't agree. "... a look that flows with the rest of the vehicles in our line. This way when someone looks at an XLR, they will say that's a Cadillac! "

Just like when I look a a Vette, I immediately say, "Yes, it's a Chevy because it looks like like a.....a......a......a......well I know it's a Chevy, BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANYTHING ELSE IN THE LINE!!!

How do I know it's a Chevy? - because it has been marketed to the general public for years. When was the last time you saw a Cadillac ad, with more than a 1/2 second glimpse of an XLR ?

I'd be happy if the CD player played "home-made" CDs.

I haven't had any problems playing "home-made" CDs in my '06. I also seem to recall playing a "home-made" audio DVD in place of the nav disk. Perhaps it is the software you are using to create the CD. Is this a common problem?

I found the problem right after I bought the car. It's an '05. My dealer said that the player wasn't made to play home made CDs, so it's good to hear that all of yours will.

I've had people give me home-mades and I also make my own - and we all use a different software, so it's back to the dealer with a printout of this string in hand.

You need to use Maxell CD-R's and they need to be called CD-R Music or be the gold edition. Trust me theres another post about this here and I did what another member told me and have been happy since!

Hello everyone! I have a 2007 Passion Red Limited edition XLR and would love to find an exhaust billet plate with the Cadillac Crest on it. My sister has a 2003 Corvette with the billet plate and the Covette race flags on it, and it looks to me as if the XLR and Vette's exhaust systems and tips are the same.......any ideas where to find something like this?????

Are you referring to the above, which I had custom made for a V?
I also had one on my 04 which was a Corvette plate and I added the Cadillac Crest to it and different exhaust tips. It looked better with the original tips and the plate.

All I know is that once the XLR-V 2009 is being released Im going to shoot down to see Mr.XLR and pick one up since it would work out cheaper for me to pick it up and have it shipped over to British Columbia. So if your reading this Mr.XLR be ready for the phone call from Canada lol.
