I have been asked by several members to elaborate on our company's screen design options. In particular I have been asked about inlays (patented by Kappa Windscreens) and their use.

Inlays, simply put, are precise laser-cut, colored pieces or forms that are parts of designs that are inlaid (put into) the windscreen. The result is a sharp design of transparent colored images that can be seen through. The advantage is that rearward vision is not obstructed like a heavily etched screen and color is visible in the daytime.

While etched screens are nice, they really show best at night time. During the day, they are much less visible. thin white lines. Add to that the illegality of some lighted colors displayed in some states (red. blue in particular) and you are setting yourself up for a warning and a potential expensive citation.

Inlaid screens, which require no: led lights, wires, electrical controls or electrical installations, are a good option that can be seen during day-light hours when 90% of driving is done. In general, the shapes for inlaid screens that work best are: letters, outlines, simple shapes like flags or geometric shapes, etc. Some people who have seen them in person, describe the shiny edges of inlays as three-dimensional Tiffany glass.

Now if some detail is needed in a design, a combination of inlay and etching can be used. A screen such as the Cadillac logo with the colored strips would lend itself to be used as an inlaid pattern. The curved wreath on the outside could be done as a etched part. This inlaid Cadillac logo is on sale at Kappa Windscreens at 30% off untill Tues. midnight. Also, The XLR logo would be a good candidate to be built using inlays. You can contact me at rayzol@netzero.com with any questions and or to place the discounted order. The website does not discount the price.

Also, you can contact me- Ray at Kappa Windscreens with any design that you may like to build with inlays. Here are a few samples as seen on the Solstice. Thank you.

It is not apparent as to how your windscreen mounts on the XLR.

Please provide any information as to the method of mounting; whether it requires modification of the car or special fasteners.

Also, is the shape or configuration of the windscreen as shown on your website? Are there any photos showing it installed? By the size and shape illustrated, it would appear to be a full width screen.

Thanks,

Hi Ken.

The introductory thread has a picture of the screen installed. It runs from outer roll hoop to outer roll hoop. It follows the shape of the hoops. No modification of the car is necessary. The attachment consists of transparent, heavy-duty binders that are included with the kit. Installation is very easy requiring less than 10 minutes.

Heavy-duty binders = Velcro straps binding the wind screen to the roll bars or at least that is my best guess since that's all we have at this point. :yesnod :nodno :yesnod

Just what the "DOCTOR" ordered........... (ref to the method introduced by "The Doctor"; previous vendor to many XLR windscreen owners; see below).

Yes . The attachment is the hoops and there is velcro on the binder. Not trying to be evasive but the competition has been doing a little too much snooping:nono .

Never met the doctor, but the attachment sounds similar. My exact points of attachment on the hoops are probably different. All I know is my screen system works and is proven.

Were people satisfied with the doctor's product?

Here you go; http://www.windbaffle.com/

he was offering his product here long before anyone else. I bought one, it reduced some of the wind buffeting, but the glare factor was overwhelming at night. On-coming headlights were the worst, as they passed, their lights would appear to swing across your rear view, creating a phantom set of lights on your right side. This constant distraction was too hard to deal with and was an issue; top up or down.

Mine also experienced cracking at the connector points, obviously caused by the constant flexing as the unit "flaps" in the breeze at high speeds.
