hey all...

so has anyone had an issue with water in the trunk of their Car? I was back on the east coast for 2 weeks are christmas, so the XLR was back in Cali. Due garaging arrangements with the roomates, I left the car outside. We were hit with some rain the past few days and when I checked the trunk when I got back this morning I noticed that the bottom of the storage compartment on the right of the trunk was soaked. Also I had left some of that hard plastic wrapping (you know that stuff you can never get open when you buy a set of headphones, etc) in the trunk - and the bottom of it was soaked as was the carpet underneah - as if water had evaporated up against the bottom and condensed there. I can already see some white spores forming on the carpet around where the wheel well would be on the drivers side... I also pulled up a bit of the trunk carpeting and towards the center of the trunk the hard plastic underneath is wet.. I checked the gaskets around the trunk lid and the seem ok, not hard and brittle or anything.. I'm sure the answers is just going to change all the gaskets, but I'm wondering if someone can point to a specific failure point.

I also noticed that a very little bit of water drips in through the defroster vent on the passenger side of the car. Again the gaskets all look pretty good around the door and the top so I'm baffled where this water is coming from.

thanks guys!

Eric, The 04 I bought last summer apparently never leaked. Until the day I went to pick it up. The top would not go down. Water got in the left side rear compartment after a storm and thats where the hydro pump is that controls the top. Most garages have on the east cost a "water guy" he goes around from dealer to dealer fixing leaks. I have not had a drop of water even in driving rain since he adjusted the trunk. Usuallly all the doors, hood and or trunk need is and adjustment. The front and rear windows might need some sealer in the window gasket area either inside or outside around those rubber gaskets/ seals. Good luck! jim

If my memory is correct, someone else had a similar problem last year (or the year before that....) and the only way to really find where it was leaking was to spend some time in the trunk with someone you trust running the hose on the outside. Of course, you could just hire these guys.

Hey all,

anyone have any experience removing the carpet out of the trunk?? It's not drying out properly so I figured I'd remove it and dry it out, plus I want to do a leak test on the trunk and I don't want to get the carpet wet again..

It looks like its attached at the right and left hand sides of the car about a foot or so in.. I can't see what it's attached to without removing the carpeted/plastic sides of the trunk, which seems like it'd be a big job.. any thoughts?

thanks again!

My 2004 was outside during a heavy rain a couple of days before Thanksgiving, and several days later I found the back of the trunk pretty wet. A little water in the very bottom of the left bin with the top mechanism, a soggy mess in the storage bin, and the assortment of stuff I had aft of the top panel was fairly wet.

Short answer, made an appointment for the day the "water leak specialist" visits my dealer. The leak was from around the center brake light. I expressed some surprise at that and the service advisor said while it's the first one he's seen on an XLR, it's not at all uncommon.
