RA,

When the page comes up, select the STOP Button (small square icon) as soon as you get to the page to freeze the slide show. If not, it'll keep rolling on. You can then "scroll" back to #1-3 or forward to #5-10.

Yes, glowing reports :rolleyes ...................like ours being back in the shop having the front end replaced due to its creaking, groaning and moaning evertime it hits a bump, you turn the wheels or drive up an incline at an angle.

Add that to the three trips to the paint shop, the failed fobs/keyless entry system, the on again/off again Stabillitrac problem, the cruise control that works less than a Caltrans employee, the self-destructing trunk release touch pad, etc.

Yes, it is a joy.:glol

I just noticed the list is the 10 MOST EXPENSIVE cars to drive list. Sometimes it should be on the most frustrating, but usually it's the most LOVED, right, folks?:yesnod

I see no difference in my car and any of my past domestic cars I've bought. They have all needed some kind of repair along the way. The only vehicle I have own that I have not had any problems with is my 96 Toyota Tacoma, that I bought new. Wish I had a nickle very time someone tried to buy it from me.

Our two XLR's have made more trips to the dealer for repairs than the last 10 cars/trucks Doris and I have owned in the last 10 years combined! In fact, the first XLR achieved that - on its own; the 07 model is just widening the gap.

The first one had to be lemoned it was so bad, and this one is not doing much better in my opinion.

My daily driver CTS has been in service less than 9 months with 23,000 miles and has been back to the dealer for one oil change and once to have a pinion seal checked.

We owned 4 Ford SVT products, not one of them ever went back to the dealer.

We like the XLR, but based on our own experiences it is not anywhere near a "trouble free" relationship. For a low volume, hand-built car, we find it disappointing that the dealership is toying with the idea of naming a service bay after us.

Gee Mark, you saved me the time to write my post on my rack & pinion groaning, (replaced) stabilitrak message on every once in a while, now the front end, (wheel is shaking like hell over 70 and the balance is correct which was done by two different front end shops. the advisor tells me changing out the rack & pinion would not cause that problem. What say ye all?
I have been told to rotate the tires on the front rims and re-balance, does this sound like it might work?

Standby,

I know you do not have the original rims/tires on the car but this issue may be caused by bad rims or tires. Even though the wheels are perfectly balanced, extreme lateral or radial runout will cause vibrations.:yesnod
The OEM tire and wheel specs allows for about 1/16 of an inch of runout. I lift the car and spin the wheels by hand in the front (watch where you put your fingers :cry ) or shift the car in 1st gear at idle for the rear. I observe the tire movement vertically and horizontally. You may be surprized of what you see. :eek

Your tire vendor may be able to check this out for you.

Yep, Thanks SilverX, I should have asked last week, took it in to get the rubber turned 180 on the rim and they found a bad spot of the inside of the rim, damned pot holes, now I have to have it trued up or get a new one. Anyone ever get a rim straightened? it's one spot.Standby,

Mark,

Sad, but true! I have had ours in the service well over a dozen times within 1 year. They treat us well, but the issues do get to you. I also feel that a hand built vehicle like this should be better quality. Our 02 Durango has never had any issues....strange that a Cadillac flagship car has this many difficulties. You would think after 4 years of making them, they would have ironed out all the wrinkles. Exterior looks flawless, the interior is great too. Cosmetically incredible, but mechanically, it is a nightmare. I don't understand why it is so difficult to use high quality parts that work. Why is there no training for the XLR techs? Why do we not get answers and fixes to the problems? Bruce tries so hard to get answers and suggestions for all of us, bless his heart. But certain issues have been unsolved by Cadillac. Squeaking rear breaks is one of our bigges issues. Poor boy sounds like a red neck rusted out ole mobile coming to a stop. It is quite ridiculous. You think people are admiring the gorgeous car you drive, instead they are giving funny looks at your brakes, then the driver. (We need a character opposite of :thumbs , meaning thumbs down)...sorry for the :rant ...Mea

I've got an '07 V that is a little over a year old. It's got about 3500 miles on it and other than going to the dealer for PA inspection and my free yearly oil change, it's been flawless. Do the posts in this thread imply that as my car ages, I'm going to be seeing the dealer more often with problems that are just waiting to pop up?

Well, anything is possible, I suppose, but I've got an '06 V with 9,000+ miles and (knock on wood) I've never been back to the dealer with a problem, just the normal oil change etc. (Pray for me!!)

Not necessarily. Ours is an 04 XLR, some folks have few if any problems, others have way too many! I am guessing the earlier model years have the real issues. Floyd has the 06 V as well, and he has no problems....
I think just the 04, 05, 06. Hopefully you will never have a problem! :yesnod Good luck! M

Well, let's hope the 08's fair better; so far we lemoned an 04 XLR and our 07 model isn't doing much better.

Add to my earlier comments the fact the daily driver that preceeded the CTS was an 05 C6 Corvette. In less than 18 months I piled over 55,000 miles on it. It never actually made it into a service bay throughout its life with me. The closest it got was the one hour oil change booth my dealer has where it stopped by four times for oil changes. To me; that is the life one should expect from the XLR - not from its mass-assembled partner, the Corvette. And my Vette had every option available, including magnetic ride, HUD, keyless entry/start, etc.

For those of you that are getting either a stabilitrak message or active handling message, you probably have a DTC C0710 stored and need to have the connector at the base of the steering column repaired(connector C202) per bulletin #06-02-35-002B. The connector is for the SWPS and gets pulled when the telescoping wheel moves out towards the driver.
