Okay, Santa is ready to come down the chimney into the garage- what color caliper paint should I request of him? What have you folks used- are you happy with the red or do you like the gray better? Any thought on brands of paint to use? I was thinking of using the gray paint on my silver X's calipers; would that be too boring? FYI- I have the factory wheels.....as of now anyway..... I don't think Santa is feeling generous enough for a new set of wheels...

And for you folks with the aftermarket plated rotors- what brand did you use, and how happy are you with them? Any issues? Did they live up to their anti-rusting promises?

Thanks in advance for your collective 2 cents worth!!:thumbs

Here is a pic of my V rotors that I had done in Red with the V painted the colors of the badges on the side of the car.

The paint is engine paint and holds up very well. My 04 had silver with the XLR mono painted black. I did get lots of good comments at Bowling Green on the V badge colors on the calipers which turned out to be unique.
Maybe some of the others will show you other colors.

Checkout this link: www.eastwoodco.com The Eastwood Co. then search under brake caliper paint. They have many colors to choose from. The color is really your choice--do you want them to stand out? Use the red! Blend in with the vehicle--use the silver. This is a good product, I've used it on several vehicles including my Crimson Pearl XLR with OEM Chrome Wheels the Red calipers look great!! Hope this helps.

Extreme close up of the calipers after I polished the XLR letters then used the Eastwood high temp epoxy brush on system. Total time to do all 4 including extreme cleaning of calipers and area around them about 2 hrs tops. I like the black on a red car personally that way the red calipers dont clash with the crimson red car but then its what you like as its all subjective anyway! Good luck. jim

Here is a shot with the new wheels before I cleaned the car and tires after mounting. You can see the black calipers perfectly! jim

I think it's a personal choice. But you can buy the caliper paint at any full line auto parts store. A lot of people do this kind of thing so, the paint is everywhere.

homegameroom, "And for you folks with the aftermarket plated rotors- what brand did you use, and how happy are you with them? Any issues? Did they live up to their anti-rusting promises?". My experiences with this is, I did the cadmium coated instead of zinc on the rotors. They both do the same. Keep the rotor from rusting. Zinc is a little more shinier. Drilled and slotted is another subject. Depending on who you talk to, drilling came from race cars. Getting the cars as light as possible was the motivation, but also there is an appealing look with drilling. In reality it weakens the rotor unless you are sure you have high quality steel. Since most steel rotors are coming out of China, I need not say more. Buying rotors on the net for 250 dollars, you are assured of overseas made products. I paid over 500 for my set that was made in the US with high quality steel and I still just had the slotted and not drilled. Having said all this information, unless you drive the X hard, you probably will be fine with the Chinese rotors. My logic is this, if I'm going to modify the car, I'm going to do it with OEM or better. This keeps the integrity of the car.

GREAT pics and great info- THANK YOU ALL!

I know about the cheap Chinese rotors, as well as the hot casting vs cold casting etc. It's well worth the few extra $$$ to get good ones. I probably won't go with drilled, but mayyyyyyyybe slotted.
