As some members know, phone systems outside the US are based on GSM (not CDMA) and to make the story very short, no onstar system is available.

Already tough to be outside the US :cry but I have to use the phone very often and the only solution is to stick the bluetooth thingy in my ear :banghead .

Anybody knows how to install a GSM SIM to work with the phone system. PLEASE HELP.

Just to know, there are only four XLRs in the whole city (if not the country) and the dealer and the service are as clueless as me (sometimes even more)

I wish I knew what all the letters meant, maybe I could help. Hans in Germany doesn't have onstar either. Kind of goofy, hey what mate. How about a satellite phone? As some members know, phone systems outside the US are based on GSM (not CDMA) and to make the story very short, no onstar system is available.

Unfortunately there probably isn't even a VCIM in your car at all, which is the onstar module. You may however be able to adapt a bluetooth kit to your car (like a Parrot, etc..) and it should work ok.

Geez Cliff, you have all the right answers. Why don't you rent yourself out? A littlel extra money around xmas time is always good, ask Ruth Ann (lola's mom)Unfortunately there probably isn't even a VCIM in your car at all, which is the onstar module. Unfortunately there is no 'software' fix to convert a CDMA phone to GSM. Different hardware requirements. Maybe GM will start to consider GSM but obviously it would have to break its relationship with Verizon. Most of the world is on GSM and the US is moving to its adoption as well. My GSM cellphone works all around the world.

Verizon actually announced that they will be converting to GSM eventually. This will probably cause another debacle with OnStar just like the analog service.

Well, that's interesting. I had not seen that. If they do, then that will be the death knell for CDMA. Sprint will have to convert as well. But that conversion will take years as all of their tower hardware will have to be converted. Or - they could simply buy someone already with GSM - like T-Mobile and then slowly start to convert customers to GSM.
