: new service bulletin
rufcar 12-07-2007, 08:32 AM I received a new XLR service bulletin today from my nephew he is head servive MGR at shop down south. It s for the reprograming the softwear of the RCDLR to correct a 30 Ma battery draw and not to replace the unit!
Bruce, Do you know anymore about this? For that matter does anyone else?
Galen 12-07-2007, 09:18 AM Do you have the service bulletin number?
rufcar 12-07-2007, 10:15 AM Its # 07-06-03-001B (march 07) jim

It's for '05-'07 XLR including V built before vin break 75600571. It is for vehicles that have been long term parked with passive lock. There is a new program for the remote control door lock receiver. #07-06-03-001b

XLR KEN 12-07-2007, 03:12 PM For the last week, the wife has been reporting door lock and ignition "recognition" problems with her Fob. Today, the DIC showed a "LOW BATTERY IN FOB" notice.
I replaced the batteries in August just before RII with ones purchased from the XLR Boutique ("Special Deal"). Didn't have a problem before with 2 year-old batteries, now 4 month old ones are dying.
Is this short battery life normal? Does the just-released bulletin relate to any improvement is this type of battery drain?
jaxsully 12-07-2007, 06:10 PM Interesting about the passive lock. I just got my 05 a few weeks ago and I travel every week. Since this is my daily car I left it at the airport garage on the floor with the rest of the 'nice' cars.
When I got back after 3 days gone - the key fob would not work until I opened the door. None of the buttons worked. It was strange. I guess I need to bypass passive lock when I leave it at the airport.

The battery drain that the bulletin is dealing with is the cars 12volt battery not the batteries in the fobs. You probably have older (not fresh) batteries in the fobs now that are getting weak.

I have been having same issues with my fob. Batteries are fairly new, does not want to recognize fob for entry. Batteries should last more than a few months. I mentioned it to my dealer and I guess they did not do anything about it, since it would not open my door for a minute after I pushed the unlock button, which I should not even have to. Ours is an 04. Mea
standby 12-08-2007, 09:12 AM Mea, here's another case of "Hans' fix." Take the ground wire off your battery and wait about a minute and it will reset your computer and probably will recongnize the fob again. There are lots of things that get out of wack just like your computer at home. Reset any computer and it will work better.

Thanks BB,
Love ya! :) M
cadillac tech 12-08-2007, 05:15 PM I would suggest trying another FOB first, see if it operates the same. If you still have the problem try doing FOB reprogram. I think you may have a FOB battery problem.

Bruce,
I guess you missed my earlier post about having just replaced both Fob batteries before RII. Today I gave the wife my Fob (#2 of course) and I took hers (#1) with me shopping to get a new battery. As fate would have it, within 10 minutes after having purchased and replaced hers, she calls me from the gym reporting that my fob was now having the same problem.
We haven't swapped back the fobs or gone out again this evening, but tomorrow will be the test. Fresh batteries (less than 24 hrs old) on hers and mine with a 4 month old battery.
The plan is for her to have both fobs with her on Monday and if hers acts up again, it's off to the dealership for a little fob party............
I don't know how old batteries are when sold out of XLR Boutique but they are now suspect. :skep

cadillac tech 12-08-2007, 08:51 PM I saw your earlier post and I still think you have a battery concern. You can have your FOBs tested to see if they are working properly.

clee85 01-03-2008, 02:48 PM "Brain Freeze" is what my dealer calls it. Happened to me last week at a shopping center. Neither fob would let us in -- or out -- of the car. Finally got help by putting the fob in the glove box spot. Dealer grounded both battery cables to each other and things have been fine for several days now. He says they have had several XLR's (and some other Cadillacs) do this from time to time. Hope it doesn't happen again.

Forgot to post the results of my efforts.
I ended up replacing both fob batteries and it solved the issue. I haven't had a recurrance since.
I had purchased replacement batteries from XLR_Boutique.com and they only lasted 4 months, both dying within days of each other. The original OEM battteries were 2.5 years old and I had no problem with them but replaced them as suggested by many.
Lesson learned: Cheap fob batteries don't last.
Galen 01-03-2008, 08:00 PM I had the same problem this last summer. I bought batteries from the Boutique, and they didn't last two months.
RickH 01-03-2008, 09:08 PM Guys,
You don't have to pay an arm and a leg for batteries. Go to any drug store and check the area where they sell hearing aid batteries. Have your old battery out of the fob and you can match the numbers up. If it's a different brand (Duracell vs Energizer), then you can cross reference the number on the package.:flag

RichH,
Exactly. :iagree Not wanting to have been specific, but I went to Wal-Mart and paid less than XLR Boutique for a pack of two. When I said "cheap", I didn't necessarily mean less expensive. The one's from Wal-Mart were quality; the ones from XLR Boutique were of questionable origin (Japanese but not a recognizable brand). The only reason I purchased from the "boutique" was an add-on to other items that I wanted.............

mswaim 01-04-2008, 08:27 AM Perhaps that's an item the Boutique needs to drop from its line, or find a quality, name-brand replacement.
At this point - Buyers Beware, since it seems the fobs require full voltage from their power source.
xlrjim 01-04-2008, 03:40 PM I have had the batteries in both fobs replaced by my dealer at no cost.
On the subject of batteries I had the 12 volt replaced under warranty this week. Original in service date for my 04 XLR was Jan 6 2004. I had to replace the battery Jan 3 2008. 4 years on a battery in a car like this one is pretty good in my estimation. I have had to replace the batteries in my other Cadillacs at about the same length of time.
I would be interested to see what kind of battery life the other members of the forum are getting.
Happy New Year to all.

I'm on my 3rd. (one was our fault .... didn't know you had to have the engine running putting the top up and down .... found out that 5 up and downs will drain the battery .....)
So nice meeting you at BBB. Hope you will bring the wife next year!

homegameroom 01-04-2008, 09:43 PM My 04's battery was replaced (under warranty, of course) in April of 07.
rufcar 01-05-2008, 02:01 PM 2nd battery installed 11/06 18,500 mi.still active and good , so presently on 2nd battery. 24,120 currect mi! Heated garage, car has never sat more than 3 weeks.
cadillac tech 01-06-2008, 06:43 AM Battery tenders should be used if the car is going to set for extended periods of time (1 month or more). Also don't leave FOB in the car, it can ran the battery down (modules can stay awake). The batteries get replaced a lot of times when it really isn't at fault, it's usually caused by something like the interior lights being left on (the dash switch can easily be bumped leaving the lights on).

Bruce,
Correct me if I'm all wet here, but I was under the impression the car was smart enough to shut off things like lights after about 20 minutes of non-use. I know my hood light goes off when I leave the hood open for the car to cool down.
Floyd
cadillac tech 01-06-2008, 09:22 AM Floyd, You are right, a lot of things like the underhood lights will time out. Some items don't time out if they are switch activated like headlamps, ignition and interior lights. The interior lights will time out if they were requested on by a door module. Modules staying on will run a battery down as well.
