I just had my new Corsa Exhaust System installed. It is much better than the stock exhaust. I was wondering if the corsa exhaust increases the vehicle's horsepower. I know it increases the flow by 64%;
but does it increase the horsepower?

Yes it does, but not by much, maybe 15 HP, just remove that matting blocking the filters in the grill add the after market grill that lets more air in and you'll pick up about 30 HP. One of the tech's at BG told me that's how much I picked up, when I was back there for RII.I just had my new Corsa Exhaust System installed. It is much better than the stock exhaust. Bob,

Please save me some time, where does one get that after market replacement? I thought all you had to do was remove the matting.

Thanks,
Floyd

Which grill should I buy? Is it the XLR-V grill?

No, can't be that, Bob and I both have a "V."

SilverXLR2004 if you have just a base XLR and NOT a "V" then it I am not sure adding a grill is going to help you out.
Bob has a "V" and cutting out the matting would help him but all the grills that are made by GM "Stock or Chrome" for the base XLR don't have any slots in them to let air in. The base XLR get most of it's air from behind the front wheel well.
There is an after market grill that "looks" like the "V" and it might let air into the front of the car but I am not sure it would help you out at all.

Hey guys, its' the aftermarket grill that looks just like the V grille and is wide open for air. All I had to do was remove the matting behind the grille by taking off that top plastic piece across the radiator. The pop snaps that hold it on will probably break. so go to your local Two Guys store and stock up on some extra black ones. The matting is also held on by the same pop snaps and if you ever want to put the matting back on because your in your rainy season, it will be easy to re-install the matting. Probably take you all of 1/2 hour to pull all this off or re-install it. The window are already cut into frame in front of both filters,
The original or chrome replacement grille does not allow for air to go through the top grille and of course you can see how much air gets through the bottom grille. This is why the console is so hot. No air blowing under the car to blow out the hot air that is trapped under the console. At least that is what I believe. My V console is no where as hot as my o4 was, which I lemoned for that exact reason.
There are picture on some threads of all what I have just described under my (standby) posts.
Some members like Hans from Germany have put this grill on and they have found it rather easy to install.
I'm sure someone with one will pop in on this post and help you out. Cost was around $1,600, I believe for the top and bottom, but you can't install the bottom because of the radar unit in the bottom grille for the ACC (adaptive cruise control) will bounce the signal off the grille.Which grill should I buy? Is it the XLR-V grill?

Bob,
I just finished reading up on all the trouble and various discussion with the Volant system. Are you satisfied with the system now that you've had the system for six months or so? One thing I don't fully understand, how does this system become a "cool air system" as it sits just about where the original system did? What makes it "cool?" Other than the look of it.

The price seemed to fluctuate as I read, do you know the current price?

Thanks,
Floyd

Completely satisfied, no problems. I paid $500, Mike of course got his for free because they molded it from his car. I have no idea how much they want for it.
Nothing would make it cool air induction, unless you have outside air directed at the two cones.
That's why I removed the matting to get direct air. It's not always cool, that's kind of a misnomer, but it does act like ram-air into the supercharger.
To tell you the truth, once you remove the matting your standard filters would be exposed to the holes in front of them and you would get some pretty good air forced into the stock filters. I would try that first and maybe save your $500 for a nice bottle of wine for good old Bobo.

Bob,

Sooooo, what exactly is this system giving you over the stock setup? Does the system just allow more air to pass through the filters???? I gotta be missing something here.

After reading all your posts about removing the matting I've decided to do the same. You also mentioned awhile back about a second matted area (lower down) did you ever remove that also?

Thanks,
Floyd

Sometimes in my ranting & retelling the story I might have mentioned something about another matting, but there is no other matting. I get short winded when trying to explain something in order to get my thoughts across and have a tendency to go on and on.
According to the design tech at BG he said I was probably getting 30 to 35 extra hp by just removing the matting. The big cones on the Volant might pull more air than the stock filters, but we didn't talk about that.
Once you open up the area and take the matting off, it will give you a visual of just how much more air will push through any filters. You will probably use the word DAH! after you open it up.

Ok, I've read all the posts and am confused. I have the std xlr (o6) and have already installed the v-grill and corsa exhaust, and put in the k&n filters. Is it possible or feaseable to say I would be able to get more air by removing the matting behind the grill? Just courious before I go any further. I think on the std xlr you have the two boxes the filters set in. Is it the same on the V? Bill (ocool)

Bill, yes your all set up to get some more HP. Do the instructions I put up and you will see the matting and behind it is two long holes right in front of the filters. I think Floyd found it to be faster, but he doesn't really get excited for an old guy.:yesnod

Well, it sounds much better than i expected. I like it. If you want more info about the sound, log into corsaperf. and there they have all the sounds of the exhaust recorded... by the way, how much does it cost u guys to buy a new corsa exhaust in the US(for XLR) ? I paid around $2000 for the exhaust including the shipping charges by FedEx to Dubai. For having it installed, i paid $500 as labour. Does this sound reasonable? Plz let me know

One more question, does anyone know when the exterior design for the XLR is going to change? Because i want to buy a 2008 XLR- V but am afraid the design will totally change in 2009.

Sounds like no major changes until 2012 model year.

Hi Silver, I paid around $ 1.200 or my Corsa + shipping here to Germany was $ 124,-- This was over two years ago!
I paid another Euro 100,-- ( about $ 135,--) for installing at my local GM dealer.

Just as Marc (mswaim) said there`s only little changes for 09
I`m sure they`ll put air vents in the front fenders (like all the new Cadillac`s have on) and maybe they`ll change the grill on the standard XLR. If you want to buy a V, I`m sure they don`t change the mesh grill.

All new model will be out in 2011 as a 2012 model.
