Just a note to all that I've discovered a new failure point.

Had the pleasure of driving the XLR to work today, but when I was about to leave, the wife advised me that she noticed the Seat Position Controller appeared loose. When I checked it, the top had broken off and the unit was "floating" loose.

Took it to the dealership at lunch and they have ordered the replacement part. I'm not sure if they are just getting a new plastic shell or the whole module (including switches).

I can understand why it may be susceptable for breakage. If you notice, the seat edge doesn't clear the top if it by much. When I sit my rear down in the driver's seat and begin the rotation to the driving position, the seat edge drops below the top of the plastic module.

Has anyone else had this failure?

Mine has the same problem. I haven't bothered to bring it up to the service department.... yet. I'm waiting for something esle to crop up before I bring it in.

I may have another issue as a post script to your newly discovered issue: the manual recommends putting the top up whenever parking the car. I've recently had the top down for a long time (4-6 weeks) and recently went to put it up, but the latch wouldn't "latch" up where the top meets the center of the (top of the ) windshild. I took my tool out of the trunk and fastened it and left the top up for a few days, then tried it again. Everything's working fine again. I'm wondering if the hydraulic cylinder that closes the latch is getting weak? That hardly seems possible, but who knows?

PS I hope I didn't hijack your thread!:o

Glad to hear someone else has experienced the problem. You don't have the same "junk in the trunk" like I've got. I was hoping it was not my posterior that is the culprit. I don't hop in and out of low cars like I used to.

Also, thanks for the heads-up on the top latch. Other info always welcome..... With the weather changing, I don't think I'll have to worry with the problem until Spring. It's one of our "everyday" drivers and the cool Fall is starting to make the top stay up more.

I know. I enjoy driving the car top up or down, but top down is always preferred! Thankfully the heated seats work well on the cooler top down days!:thumbs

I broke the pannel off mine in the '04 by sitting sidesaddle and I'm a fairly light guy (155lb). I'm very careful with it in my V and no problem yet.
My top can stay down for weeks, maybe months at a time (So Cal:thumbs )
and I've never had a problem getting it up.

top is always up when in garage, want to keep that new car smell as long as possible, also keep the flying birds from dropping there dew on the inside of the car when one gets trapped in there on occasion. my seat adjuster seems to be fine on my 05. I havent even noticed hitting it, i will be more cautious of it now. thanks for the info
