: Chrome grille
RickH 10-29-2007, 07:20 PM I just replaced the grille on the front of my '05 with one that is chrome, but looks like the OEM grille. The directions were astonishingly long, but all you have to do is open the hood,
pop the four plastic nuts off (ok, I don't know what they are called).
Unscrew the four screws that hold the top of the OEM grille,
pull the grille forward with a long flat screwdriver, start unsnapping the bottom clips, (push pretty hard to get these loose and pull away from the front of the car. They will pop out pretty easily. You might want to use some painters tape to protect the bumper.
After the OEM grille is out, reverse the process. It will take about 1/2 hour to 45 mintes to do the whole job- and you don't have to take off the bumper cover and headlights, etc out like the directions tell you to do.

RickH 10-30-2007, 07:47 AM You probably know about the water shortage here in the Atlanta area. I'm trying to hold off on giving the car a bath at the car wash until Friday when we set out for Savannah. I'll post some pictures next week after I get back.

i replaced XLR lower GRill from XLR to XLV shapre.....and it looks cool, but i didnt want to change the grill of the XLR as its classic and looks better ... the installation is easy for the lower grill as you can do it at home...

The ACC radar is mounted behind the left side semi-transparent plastic panel of the lower facia opening. I was told by one of the ACC System designer that the wire mesh grill would not allow the radar to perform as needed for the ACC. Well, I hope you do some operational tests before you start relying on it's function too much. Many people in here would like to change their lower grill but do not want to loose their cruise control. Good luck and let us know what happens.

GETAKLU 12-05-2007, 07:08 PM I know just about everyone has asked about and talked about the Wire Mess Grille install, but I havn't really figured out if anyone has answered weather or not if, installing the lower grille causes you to lose the entire cruise control system or just the adaptive cruise control. I know my dealer is selling an XLR with the aftermarket grille installed, but they can't answer the question for me. I just hate to lose my cruise control. If I understand right, the V doesn't have adaptive cruise, am I right?
Hal
XLR_Lover 12-05-2007, 07:30 PM If you install the metal lower grille you will lose the ACC. The regular cruise will still work. No, unfortunately, the "V" doesn't have ACC.

GETAKLU 12-05-2007, 08:10 PM Thanks Floyd, That's just what I wanted to hear. I can live with that. Just couldn't see spending that kind of money and lose the cruise control.

GETAKLU,
One way to get the TRUE answer and prove to everyone else if it would work or not is to let your dealer take it for a test drive..
You would not have to go very far to test it out.
SOOOOOOOOOOOO ask for a test drive.
Blaise
SilverX 12-05-2007, 08:17 PM Please TEST DRIVE IT and let us know what happened...! I did not know that the cruise control would still work minus the Adaptive function. If that's the case, many people might want the trade off. Sometimes I get the message "Clean the radar" or something like that, and the cruise does not engage. I assumed that I would get the same error with a wire mesh in front of the radar unit.

GETAKLU 12-15-2007, 11:44 AM Here is what I think I learned. For the XLR, get the small lower grill insert or lose your Cruise Control.

standby 12-15-2007, 12:30 PM That's all well and good, BUT DID YOU TAKE THAT XLR AT THE DEALERS FOR A TEST RIDE TO PROVE THIS THING ONCE AND FOR ALL. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ. Sorry, but we have been waiting patiently for an answer.

GETAKLU 12-15-2007, 06:05 PM No, I was wrong about the XLR having the full lower grill, you know how that age/memory thing is, it had the small grill. So, still no good answer.
standby 12-15-2007, 09:13 PM You probably just answered it...........It had the little lower grill not covering the radar unit.
I think we can go with YES, it blocks the ACC and NO the unit will not work as a regular cruise control. No, I was wrong about the XLR having the full lower grill, you know how that age/memory thing is, it had the small grill. So, still no good answer.
Alarmu12 10-26-2011, 10:39 PM DOES ANYONE HAVE A FACTORY STOCK 2007 CADILLAC XLR CHROME UPPER GRILLE FOR SALE, PREFERABLY BLACK LOWER BAR. PLEASE CONTACT BOB COTTERMAN AT alarmu@gmail.com WITH PRICE AND CONDITION.
Reno44 10-27-2011, 08:16 AM Just for the record. I installed "V" style aftermarket upper mesh grill on my 04 XLR. I couldn't find an aftermarket full lower "V" grill so I made my own. I got a piece of aluminum mesh, cut it to fill the entire lower grill space, wrapped the edges with plastic chrome door edge guard using glue to secure the edge guard to the mesh and secured the resulting grill to the lower space with zip ties. As a result, the lower mesh grille is isolated from ground and my adaptive cruise WORKS FINE WITH NO LOSS OF FUNCTION. I have tested this function many many times over several months.

Bob,
Because this is a four year-old thread that has multiple topics in it, I suggest you start a new thread entitled "Looking for Chrome Upper Grill" or something like that. You'll be much more likely to get more responses.
You'll need to be specific as to what you're looking for as well. There are two styles of chrome grills for the XLR. The XLR-V mesh and the original "blade" style available on the later models that has been chromed.

Reno44 10-29-2011, 05:37 PM Tried to respond to this message couple days ago but I guess the WWW gods gor their electrons crossed. 2nd try: I replaced my upper and lower grille with "V" style mesh grille and lower grille fits all the way across the lower opening. My adaptive cruise control works fine and I use it all the time.
Alarmu12 11-14-2011, 02:12 AM DO YOU HAVE THE NUMBER TO ORDER THE CHROME STD GRILLE NOT THE V AND WHAT DID IT COST? BOB AT alarmu@gmail.com.
ccclarke 11-14-2011, 12:25 PM Bob,
Please try to keep getting the info you need from the new(er) thread you started last week for the Platinum Edition chrome grill. This will make it easier for folks to find out the kind of info you are seeking in future searches. Reno44 installed a completely different style grill.
As for pricing info, try gmpartsdirect and look it up for the 08/09 XLR model years. It will considerably cheaper.
Good luck!

Does anyone have the part number for a chrome non "v" grille? I'm thinking it might look good on my '05.
