: Hood Heatshield Logo
XLR KEN 10-26-2007, 11:12 AM Can anyone tell me who's XLR this belongs to? The photo was taken at Rendezvous II............
I'm interested in knowing how the detailing was accomplished (i.e. paint used, method of application, etc.). All XLR's apparently have the Cadillac Crest inbossed into the thermal blanket under the hood, but I found this detailing to be an extremely nice touch.

I'm not positive, but I thought it was ocool's (Bill). I do remeber it was parked by standby near the Cadillac tent. I could be wrong though--my mind plays tricks on me:yesnod

Opps - I made the wrong observation .... I was thinking this was on the outside of the car ... in which case, Bill's in a silver color ....
I will go away now! ....(sheepish)
(I get the tricks thing) :cheers
homegameroom 10-26-2007, 12:02 PM I remember- it is Ocool's. He had it painted by someone (stenciled & sprayed, if I remember correctly).
There was also aother GM accessory shown- it was a stitched logo for the underside of the trunklid. It was very nice, and would display nicely when you raised or lowered the top! It was a prototype; look for possible production sometime next year (I was told).

Thankfully, senility runs in my family........
ocool 10-26-2007, 01:46 PM Yes Ken, I had the emblem airbrushed on by a local artist. It took many coats to get the right look. There was a company on e-bay that did the corvette emblem in a plastic material you put on with a heat gun or hot air dryer. I had put one of theirs on my C6 corvette and it was very nice. I had contacted them but they did'nt think there was enough interest in going to all the trouble of producing one for the XLR. So, I shopped around and found a good air brush artist that agreed to do it. I think it really dresses up the engine compartment for shows.

XLR KEN 10-26-2007, 02:59 PM ocool,
Thanks for reminding all us ol' folk who this piece of art belonged to. There were so many beautiful upgrades at Rendezvous II that I went into overload and now it's getting hard to remember who's were who's.
You know the old saying......
"There are two signs of getting old: loss of memory, and......I can't remember the other."
I look forward to seeing it again at Rendezvous III.

ocool 10-28-2007, 11:06 AM Just in case anyone is interested, I had the artist use a water based paint to do the cadillac crest to avoid any possibility of heat causing any damage to the hood. I've put about 10,000 miles on the car since having it done and found there is no heat difference from the unpainted area vs the painted crest area. Bill (ocool)

Bill,
Have you found the logo to get dirty or is it pretty resistant to cleaning?
Ken
ocool 10-29-2007, 05:21 PM Ken, the hood liner stays very clean, no problem with it or the painted crest getting dirty. Bill (ocool)

Bill,
I noticed your work at RII and snapped a picture of it as well. It does add to the beauty of the engine compartment nicely. What was the company name that made the emblem for the vette? Maybe if enough of us badgered them they might consider making one for us.
Bob
ocool 11-07-2007, 11:07 AM Hi Bob, I can't remember the name, I found it by accident one day while visiting
e-bay looking at corvette accessories. It was pretty cheap, under 50.00 and really worked like a charm. It intailed removing the hood liner, laying the semi sticky emblem over the embossed ( in the case of the corvette, the flag emblem) and using a hair dryer, heating it so it kinda melted into the embossed area. It looked just like a factory job. I'm sure it could easily be done if there was enough interest, but you have to understand, there's a whole lot more corvettes out there than XLR's and it seems a lot of vette owners really like to dress up their cars. Don't know if it would be cost effective for the company or not? I'm sure they keep looking at the available market and if it becomes feaseable , they will jump on it. Every one's looking to make a buck.. Bill (ocool)
