Most wheel cleaners will not hurt chrome wheels .... how difficult is it to care for the highly polished aluminum wheels that come on the Platinum editions of the X? We are experiencing some "flaking" of the factory wheel coating on our stock o4 wheels.....
We are thinking about upgrading to those new polished 15 spokes ... instead of the chrome.
Has anyone experienced any such flaking - what products do you use to keep the hign sheen?

I use a very reliable product that I was told would not cause flaking or for that matter anyother kind of damage. It's priced very reasonable. The product is called EBG. You may have heard of it. Some have tried it but don't like using it after a while for various reasons.

I think Ray has polished Lola so much the wheels are wearing off the car.
Your in trouble now wiith sitting in front of the TV with my new laptop on my DAH...............lap? Gee where is Mocha going to sit.
I thought you guys where goiing to buy some new rims, but to answer your Q, alluminum is usually coated and the coating will come off (flake) Chrome takes a beating and is much easier to clean, especially with some products that you can spray on and spray off with water..............WOW, like new.

So, on our foray this morning we stopped at our Cadillac dealership .... we were hoping that they had a set of the polished alum wheels on ANY XLR ... no luck ... the one used one they have has stock wheels .... and the Passion Red that is on their floor has the chrome stock ... so, we ended up looking at all of the other wheels on the other models ... Wow, Cadillac has some great looking products out now ... saw a set of polished alum on an 08 CTS ... really liked those alot. We talked with a guy there who was looking to buy a CTS .... he never even knew about the XLR .... when we pointed him in the direction of the Passion Red we never saw him again! :rolleyes

Ruth, what do you have against off market wheels, why do you have to have Caddy rims?
Twenty inch Foose Star rims would look sweet on Lola.
It's the twenty that makes them stand out.
Hey what ever happen to Passion Diva? Did she get locked in a mall? So, on our foray this morning we stopped at our Cadillac dealership .... we were hoping that they had a set of the polished alum wheels on ANY XLR ... no luck ... the one used one they have has stock wheels .... and the Passion Red that is on their floor has the chrome stock ... so, we ended up looking at all of the other wheels on the other models ... First the wheels .... just our preference to stay with wheels that are designed for the X ... and definetly want to stay with the run flats .... and liked both sets that we saw at BG .... So nothing against any others .... we just like the Caddy's. :thumbs
Second ... Passion Diva is way too smart to get locked in a mall .... You will hear from her .... she is one of the vacationing Diva's ... takes lonnnnnnnnnnnnng vacations ... but she is around .... :lurk She may even be reading this .... :skep :skep

Here's the solution to wheel cleaning; Carbon-X. It's used on airplanes which are mostly aluminum. It's amazing stuff. I mix it 20:1 and use it to wash the whole car. It's about $20.gal and available here.
