: check gas cap
dunerider 10-06-2007, 10:02 AM i had the dic message of check gas cap the other day and the engine light came on. i had onstar do a diagnostic and couldnt find any thing wrong, they asked if i checked the gas cap or if i just filled up, the answer was yes. they said the light should go off after a tank of gas runs through, so far the light is still on and i have burned a half a tank. i have read about the gas cap needing replaced, anyone else dealt with this issue??

rufcar 10-07-2007, 02:43 PM About a month ago I had the same cap problem. It turned out to be filling the tank without shutting off the engine. The 3 cures are go get a new cap and have the dealer reset the comp! Or just have the dealer reset the computer or over the period of about a few days to a week after starting the car and driving about 40 times it resets itself like mine did. Some cadie tech taught me this ! Just so you know im not making it up as you all probably think I am!!! jim

Hey dunerider, i had the same problem about six months ago. Mr. XLR emailed me that it takes 30 times of shutting on/off to reset the dic so that it doesn't display the gas cap error. Besides some of the causes listed above, he said one of the most notorious reasons is pushing while screwing the gas cap back on. Don't do that! Just screw back on gently until it starts clicking. Now, my cause of the engine gas cap error was due to 'computer malfunction' according to my caddie tech. Needless to say, they replaced my computer (still under warrantee) and the problem was solved. Good luck.

XLR28 10-09-2007, 11:48 AM Took mine in yesterday since I had a day off from work, and they hooked her up to the smoke machine and found that the gas cap was leaking (confirmed it rather) and poped on a new one and reset the code.
