This is Mea, I am writing on behalf of Carole Berry, whom I met at our local Cadillac dealership when I was picking up our X last week. Her 2006 was parked right infront of ours and she was ready to leave when I approached her to meet her and compliment her on her nice XLR. Her first response to me was, " I hope you are not in here for the same reason as I am"..so the conversation started:
Her XLR completely shut down as she was driving on the road and taking a turn, thankfully she was going slow, or it could have been disasterous! The car went dead, absolutely dead! Has this happened to anyone? She is in the process of signing up on the forum and she asked me to post this. Cadillac could not explain what happened to the car, did not find anything that went wrong. So they hooked up an electronic device for a week or so, so that if this happens again, she is to push the red button within 45 seconds of the car stalling to record what went wrong. She was absolutely frightened. What if she was going 70 on the highway? No brakes, no steering, no power, nothing! :confused
Another issue she is having that no one at the dealership seems to address is when she takes her foot off the accelerator and just before breaking, the car wants to lunge forward a bit?
Any response would be appreciated and I will forward it to Carole. Thank you! :)

Mea,

The surge issue has been talked about on here before. Do a search you should find it. If I remeber correctly an update to the computer took take of it, but I'm not positive. I"ll do a search and see if I can find it for you.

Here's another: http://www.xlrforum.com/showthread.php?t=2708

Seems some of the others had the same problem with complete shutdown. Perhaps PM'ing some of these will get some answers, as they haven't posted if it was corrected for them. Good luck helping out our new forum member Carole.

Mea,

I had the same problem when I had the XLR, two years ago. XLR mechanic, Rich, knows about it, they replaced the "brain." Since the replacement nothing raised it's ugly head again.

By the way, I'll be taking the V in tomorrow for an oil change.

PS: If she puts it in neutral it will restart, she doesn't have to stop.

I agree with Floyd. I would ask the dealer to replace the ECM (Engine Control Module).
Good luck.

I would also suspect the ECM, that was the problem with my 86 Tornado and 94 Continental. Both would die for no reason while driving.

I had an Oldsmobile that would just die for no reason. Then when I was picking it up after having something done to it, it wanted to speed up on its own before I could even leave the service area.

They came out and eventually re-flashed the computer. Both problems never occured again and I put at least 60k more miles on after that.

HI Mea,
My 2005 XLR will never come home again. When I picked it up last time they swore it was fixed. We had them keep it longer and drive it anyway. Long story short, it died again. Four times and I'm out. They still have the car as I am too afraid to drive it. (It was my everyday driver). I am waiting to see if they will give me my money back. Doesn't look good and there is no other Cadillac I want. I am so disappointed and saddened about all this. When I first got the car I was so in love with it. They did get a computer readout when it died because the head of service was in the car with his device. And they still have no clue. When I read that she had an 06 that did the same thing mine did i couldn't believe it because that has the 6 speed transmission. So it's not a transmission problem. They just don't know which I find inexusable for a car that is supposed to be their flagship vehicle. I hope she fairs better than me.

That is exactly what we are going through here is a link to the post.

I think we should all get together and have a sit down with Emerson the GM at Coastal.
This makes 3 that I know of, I wonder how many more there are out there.

The ECM did not do the trick.
Still have a problem. Nick the Service Manager is worthless and then the sales ppl try to make 10K more by wanting us to pay that much more for same year XLR
It gets really fun when you are going about 50-60mph
And with them putting in a box and asking to hit the red button.:eek
No way as you are tring to control the car last thing on your mind
is trying to push a button. I am more worried about the person behind me.

Well send me a PM with a phone# and maybe we can all go there.
We have an appointment tomorrow (Thursday) with the GM at 6pm

Hey 2seaterjoe, I wish we could join you but we are over here in West Palm Beach, dealing with Maroone Cadillac. We left the car there because I refuse to drive a car that is a death trap, nor will my husband let me. They have already replaced everything, ECM, wiring harness, fuel sender/pump assembly and oxygen sensors. Another o5 was there with the same problem the last time we were there and they told me of one in North Carolina. I have only had this car just under 6 months, and the last 3 weeks its been at the dealer! Even now, it only has 3800 miles on it. It only had 1700 when I bought it, that's less than a demo! There is more to say, I don't know how to PM on this site, but feel free to contact me.
