: XLRless in NC
Ed and Sandra 08-31-2007, 06:45 PM After a little more than two years with an XLR in our garage and available at a moment’s notice for whatever fun we would like to have with it, there’s this big empty void. No XLR! Our ’05 was collected Wednesday and arrived this morning at Foley Cadillac in Chicago. Supposedly, our new “V” is enroute to us in a covered transporter and might be delivered to our house tomorrow evening, though we’ve heard there have been some challenges along the way which might cause a delay. Hmmm. This doesn’t feel good. One definitely needs an XLR of some variety in their garage!
Breathlessly awaiting,
Ed and Sandra
:lol :lol
elfred 08-31-2007, 07:26 PM May the evening of the 'morrow bring you happiness. (meaning I hope your XLR arrives in good shape so you may enjoy!)
Good Luck with your new baby.:cheers

Elfred
Ed and Sandra 08-31-2007, 07:43 PM Thanks for the good wishes, but if it doesn't get here soon, we're going to have to come over to your place and stand next to your XLR to get over this withdrawal thing!
Best regards,
Ed and Sandra
mswaim 08-31-2007, 08:12 PM We keep a screensaver/wallpaper shot of the XLR. At least it helps fill in the void while its in the shop. Well, maybe not.......
jamsto 08-31-2007, 08:24 PM Congratulations on your new acquisition. I remember when I was waiting and waiting for the first XLR to show up in New Mexico in 12/03. As soon as it came, my wife claimed it and I had to wait for another one. I am sure the anticipation will be worth the wait when the new V actually arives. Jim
SilverX 08-31-2007, 09:31 PM Congrats. I HOPE YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

BAYAREAGLASS 09-01-2007, 08:36 AM Hate to bust your bubble but we all get our XLR's in a covered transport, not just YOU.
POP....:crazy....CONGRATS.... I assume its coming to your house?
Ed and Sandra 09-01-2007, 08:50 AM Yes, it's being delivered directly to the house. Spoke to the transport driver via cell phone just a moment ago - he's feeling rather frustrated. He's sitting in Nashville waiting for a customer to arrive by plane to collect a new Aston Martin he's carrying in addition to our V. He indicated that customer is overdue a couple of hours, but he still plans to be at our place this evening.

Ed and Sandra 09-02-2007, 06:56 PM This is just a quickie announcement, especially for those sending inquiries via PMs and emails. We have the V and it is MAGNIFICENT !
We've spent the past couple of hours carefully hand cleaning the underside, wheel wells and inside the rims. Obviously, the car sometime in its short 98 mile life had been driven on a messy wet surface. But, it's all beautiful now.
Along with some additional information, we'll try to post a few pictures tomorrow, if Road Runner which hosts our websites cooperates. They've been having problems for a solid week now which have prevented us being able to do any updates.
Best regards,
Ed and Sandra
Ed and Sandra 09-03-2007, 07:23 AM The V finally arrived in our hometown around 2 pm on Sunday. During the time it was in transit from Chicago we had several cell phone conversations with the driver, Todd, and developed quite a rapport. As we noted earlier he was supposed to do a delivery early Saturday morning in Nashville before heading to our place. His customer that was supposed to collect a new Aston Martin he was carrying came “sauntering by” over 8 hours late for the appointment and apparently quite oblivious of the problems he was causing. Contrary to what we noted earlier, this person is a linebacker with a pro football team (we recognized the name and team, but not being sports fans both are now out of heads). Todd was subsequently still trying to reach us for a late Saturday delivery when it finally dawned on us that he wouldn’t arrive until about 1 am Sunday. So, we asked him to get off the road and get some sleep, and rescheduled for Sunday afternoon. He was greatly appreciative!
Sunday morning we decided to make his life a lot easier by directing him to a shopping mall parking area that was directly on his route and which would provide him very easy access to I85 when he left us to go to his next stop. Mind you, after seeing the size of his rig we seriously doubt he would have been able, without a huge amount of difficulty, to negotiate the streets in our development all of which end in cul de sacs and none of which is interconnected. The neighbors just had to be disappointed with missing the show.
We are delighted at having the new V – well worth the wait – it is a beautiful piece of machinery.
Below are a few photos we wanted to share.

standby 09-03-2007, 09:50 AM Ken, I always did like that cherry type red, it's a good looking used V.
To bad it was driven in the rain and got dirty underneath.

XLR KEN 09-03-2007, 10:01 AM One of the East Coast-West Coast differences I've noticed. Cars always look clean in CA, NM, AZ, NV, etc. (dust yes; mud no). One the Eastern U.S. issues is, we get MUD.............lots of mud. In the Southeast, it's red clay; will stain steel. Cars get dirty just going around the block.
standby 09-03-2007, 10:07 AM Yes sir Hitch, I had mine for about a year an a half and is still like new underneath. We hit a couple of local showers on the way to BG but never had to put the windshield wipers on, so the bottom should be OK. God forbid, I have to have it steamed cleaned. popbigguy 09-03-2007, 11:27 AM OK Ed!!! Now give us a report.... Do you notice a difference between the "V" and the regular XLR? Ride, comfort, handling, and how about the supercharger? Maybe a little bit of difference in the power there? Any dislikes between the two models?
Chad

Hi Ed and Sandra,
The pictures look great!! I am assuming this is a 2008 model correct? Best of luck, I like the color.

Hello Chad,
We went for a nice two hour ride this afternoon (top down of course) and, just as you promised us would be the case when we were discussing this at Bowling Green, there are noticeable differences. We still can't get enthusiastic about those Velcro seats though we want to give them a fair chance; however, the other differences were all extremely positive ones from our perspective and, frankly, were immediately obvious.
The steering and suspension changes were the most evident even in the first mile or two. Yes, the supercharger produces lots of enhanced get up and go, but keep in mind we're taking it easy with the acceleration and braking for the first 500 miles, just as the manual and Mr. XLR advise.
Something we found very interesting was our perception of the angle of the front end to the rear - it seems more sloped downward, i.e. the front end relatively lower. That perception may be caused by not having the seats adjusted quite the same just yet. But we thought it interesting that suddenly we could see the effect with the top hem of the windscreen which rleonard1 saw when he tried it with his '06 V. No matter how we adjusted the driver's seat the hem was always visible in the rearview mirror and the trunk lid was more noticeable which added to the perspective that the rear end was raised higher than on a regular XLR.
We're certainly looking forward to further enjoying these differences, and no doubt finding more of them. It really is a magnificent machine. Thanks for all your encouragement to make the move.
Best regards,
Ed and Sandra

Henry (Professor):D
Hi Henry,
Glad you like the color - it's Infrared with all Ebony interior. It's a brand new '07 and our reason for choosing the '07 over the '08, as Mr. XLR will confirm, is because of the exterior color. We learned that Infrared is no longer available for model year '08 and we really didn't like at all the new red. So, that's what drove our decision to grab one of the last available new V's with the colors we especially preferred. Of course by not going with the '08 it indeed meant we had to do without the new heated steering wheel and sexy key fob :nodno :nodno .
All our best to you,
Ed and Sandra

I love my California, the weather is never too cold, or too hot (even now). With the cooled seats on, the top down, what could be more perfect??????. During the winter it will be heated seats on, and the top down. When it rains, Passion Diva will stay in the garage all covered up, and the SUV will deal with the rain. :thumbs
Galen 09-03-2007, 06:38 PM Looks absolutely beautiful.
elfred 09-03-2007, 06:47 PM Ed & Sandra,
You made the right move....Infrared is awesome and it was good that you grabbed a remaining NEW 2007! Good Luck with your ride and if your up for a longer trip Cary is only two hours or so away.
Regards,
Elfred
XLR KEN 09-03-2007, 06:49 PM I love the RED. Too bad we won't be getting any red vehicles soon. I've burned out the wife on red and black; have to shift to some other color on the spectrum. We've got our eye on the "BLUE BUNNY" color now............come to think of it, that sound better than Electra Blue. XLR KEN
RedVetteDiva 09-03-2007, 07:22 PM That's why I love California, year round top down!!
standby 09-03-2007, 07:52 PM well, it seems I stand corrected. You made mention that your V had 98 miles on it in an early post and was filthy underneath. I assumed by this information that it was used...................sorry

Hi Ed and Sandra,
Did you keep the wind screen you bought for your 2005 XLR at the Rendezvous? I couldn't tell from the pictures of the new XLR. I am sure it would fit fine on your new one.
Look forward to seeing you both again.
Henry

Yes, we did keep the windscreen and it works just as well on the V. Glad we've got it because it does make a noticeable improvement as far as wind buffeting.
Best regards,
Ed and Sandra
