: New XLR 18" Wheels Shown at RII

There were two new wheels from GM for the XLR being shown at RII. The YV197 is a 15 spoke polished aluminum one and the YV409 is a chrome 7 split spoke design. We loved the YV409 and were prepared to buy a set on the spot! Fortunately, they had only one wheel for "show and tell." We say "fortunately" because XLR I FL helped us keep our perspective by reminding us that it might not be a prudent purchase if we do move to a V any time soon. Heck, we might still do it anyway.

Did anyone get pictures of these wheels they can share here on the forum?

For those that like to know about such things, the prices being quoted by Martin Cadillac are:

YV197 wheels only - $1,931; with Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 P235/50 ZR18 tires - $3,689

YV409 wheels only - $3,325; with same tire as above - $5,083

Taxes and installation for all of the above are additional.

Best regards,
Ed and Sandra

Thinking of a new V huh? Instead of buying off the lot consider ordering it and take the buyers tour and watch your car be built. You'll see (and do)a lot more than what they showed us on the tour. When it "your" car going down that assembly line it's special to ya'.

Hi Chad,

Glad you're back OK. For those readers that perhaps don't know, on an earlier visit, Chad and his family actually saw their car being built at Bowling Green, had the opportunity to talk with those involved in constructing it and actually sitting in the car while it was undergoing some testing. Presently, one cannot take possession of their XLR at the factory - it has to go to the dealer after it's been held at the factory for another week or so of testing.

Chad was in our tour group for the factory visit and it was like having our own personal guide providing lots of unique observations about what was transpiring around us. And, the people on the assembly line clearly remembered him. Thanks for all the insights, Chad.

Tom Hill, Vehicle Assembly Engineering Manager for Corvette and XLR, talked with us, as we know he did with some others, about possibly developing a means for groups of buyers to visit early in the production year and being able to actually take possession of their cars at that time.

Now, back on track - anyone got pictures of those new wheels!?

Best regards,
Ed and Sandra

I saw the ones on the right in a booklet on rims I picked up at the dealer. Wasn't sure if I liked them untill I saw the picture in your post. They are stunning and I know one should not give in to lust, but life is kind of short.

Ed:

IF you do remember my other suggestion---buy them with tires mounted and take your current wheels and tires off. Then when you get your "new ride" XLR or XLR-V you can either put them on it (XLR) or remount the old tires and wheels and sell the new ones here on this site to the highest bidder.

You won't get ALL of your investment back but at least you will recover some of it.

Hello Jerry,

Yes, we did remember that additional good advice you gave us. Fact of the matter is at this moment we’re in the process of finalizing arrangements to obtain a set of new wheels with tires mounted. We’re working on getting the delivery organized and hopefully will have them soon and will make some pictures to share on the forum when they do arrive. In those photos we’ll also try to show the new ’07 car that came with the new wheels. It has something about “Supercharged” and this little “V” thingy decorating it. As you might guess, it’s Infrared with full Ebony interior.

Best wishes and, again, thanks for all the great advice,
Ed and Sandra

I just ordered the YV409s for my 05 this week- and of course it was the same day that the UAW went out on strike.

Looks like they are getting back to work next week, so hopefully I'll have them soon. Once they are mounted, I'll post some pictures.

Which of the two above are the 409's??/ We are interested in the shiney chrome ones with the colored crest ....... either set are beautiful though, aren't they? We saw them in BG ..... have had my heart set on them ever since. Lucky you ... looking forward to seeing your pictures! And then when we get ours, I'll send you pictures too! :cool What color is your 05?

Thanks, Galen. Just to let you know ... the sway bar kit is here ... Ray has been scheduled to work everyday for the past month and he is getting frustrated because he doesn't have the time to get out to the garage and work on the car. The grill is here too. We are still really wishy-washy on the intake/exhaust.... like I have posted before, the warranty issues are a big concern to us .... Lola goes in so much for work that we are afraid that after market add ons my give them a way out on needed repairs ........ she has like a 4 page history of repair/replace ... going in again Monday for seatbelt sender replace and the PS pump is in .... But the wheels! Yes ... we will be doing the wheels! Do you still have those pictures we talked about of your car on jacks? I couldn't find them.

I can't find the pictures on my computer. And I don't know where to look on this site. When Ray gets close I can talk him through it. It's very simple. XLR28 is doing his tomorrow with Chad. Been shopping wheels all day. I'm at the point now that they all look the same! I have narrowed my field down to three or four. Asanti, Lowenhart, Foose, C squared, and Lexani. Then I have tires. I'm going to not have run flats. It really narrows the choices down.

I've been looking for that picture of your car on the jacks too ... it seems like I found it once a couple of weeks ago, and now I can't remember what thread it's on .... :banghead

Good luck with your tires .... that was a long discussion that we had with Bruce (CT) .... finally decided to stay with the run flats .... we travel a lot .. and going across miles and miles of desert .... no spare would stress me out! I know it's a hard choice isn't it .... so many great rims ... so little time! Take pictures, Galen ... and we will too! Thanks for the offer to help Ray out ... You guys are going to have fun tomorrow .... take some pictures as you go .... so helpful! I wish we had some forum buddies close to us. Well, maybe next year!

Like that don't ya...LOL...There are small indicator arrows on the rocker panels for lift/jack placement. You must use a puck or round hard rubber biscuit to give clearance for the jack or lift arm otherwise it could crush the rocker which is fibreglass. Hey tell Ray lifts nowadays can be had for around $2500 for a decent setup. Then ya gotta get an air compressor, air tools, nice flooring for the garage and maybe a really good lighting system. Anyway hope the picture helped.

Ruth Ann, do a search for Covetee lift pucks on Ebay and you will find lots of sources for the pucks. You will want them if Ray is going to be doing a lots of lifting of Lola to clean the chassis with a toothbrush :glol

Haha, Elfred .... you made me laugh :yesnod ... he has the compressor, air tools, nice flooring, and great lighting ..... but he will never have a lift! :( Nooooo, not because of a veto .... but because we only have a double garage and driveway .... property is San Diego is expensive ..... no land to play and park on ..... unless you are way in the outskirts, or have lots of $$$$ .....
On our BG trip seeing the size of property lots outside of San Diego was amazing .. I am in awe of what you all can have in the way of housing .... and a bit jealous! But .... family is everything and we will stay put...... and Ray won't get a lift :glol

Thanks for the info about the jack placement and pucks .... both things I haven't read before .... and, yep, the pictures are a great help ... Tomorrow could be the day! :cool

Ruth Ann,
I have a brand new low profile floor jack that fits under the body, most don't. I was going to use it to remove the rims and paint the brake rotors where they rust, but when I was given all new rotors and brakes, I found the new ones are already coated so they don't show the rust anymore. I can deliver to 15th & Market if Ray is interested. Cost new was $125, will give it up for $50 because your you.

Bob,

It would be very handy to have a floor jack, can you tell me the brand and model of the one you have? I don't want to go out and buy one and find it doesn't roll under the car as I would then have to take it back, etc., etc.

Thanks,

Floyd, Check your clearance. I no longer have the box it came in but I believe it's the lowest profile you can get at the auto store. It was 3 1/2 inch clearance on the jack which is enough to easily get it under all four corners.

I use a 2 Ton Low Profile floor jack on the Vette and XLR. It is very low and easily gets under the car. Speedy Lift, Model F-777

I believe I got it at PEP Boys 3 or 4 years ago.

Well. the UAW went back to work and my wheels showed up at my Caddy dealer today. They go on Monday and I may be able to post a couple of photos by Tues if I can figure out how to do it. Are there some directions on how to do this on the site some where? I can't seem to find anything.:)

SilverX
10-05-2007, 11:14 PM
There are two ways to do it.

1 - you can upload a picture from your computer as an attachment using the paper clip icon right next to the smiley icon above the text box.

2 - you can add the picture within the text by first uploading it to a web site such as photobucket.com, then coying the location of the picture in the dialog showing when you use the "Insert Image" icon.

It sounds more complex than it really is. Try it, if you dont like the results you can always delete your posting.

Speaking of lifting Lola, here are the lift pads you should have.

They are available on eBay, search for Item number: 250173077841. There are more options but this one seems to be cost effective.
