You got it in with a few days to spare, perfect time for a few test drives with it before the trip.

Galen,

Have you had it out on the road yet to 'feel' the difference? See ya Thursday in Mt. Vernon, you can let me know then.

Are you kidding? Heck yes I've had it out. To give you an idea. I have a large entrance into my business from the main road out front. I turned that corner at 45 without drifting. I had to get out of the car and check to see if I had driven through some glue. ;) My sister-in-law wanted to go for a ride today I didn't want to go fast on the freeway, (any car can go fast) so on the clover leaf I had her head over in my lap. :thumbs I mean from going around the corner that is.

Galen, what year is your XLR? How difficult what it to add the rear stablilizer bar? Are there mounting holes and brackets already on the frame? Thanks.

Galen
08-16-2007, 12:05 AM
Well, there are all the holes to mount it. You will need a list of parts that are already listed on this site. The total cost was something like 178.00 Thats the bar the two links at the ends of the bar the bolts and mounting brackets with rubber grommet's. It took me about 1 hour that included lifting the car. I had no directions so I went to the Corsa exhaust web site and they have directions for installing the pipes. But it shows the stabilizer bar in a few of the photos. That was enough for me to turn the bar right side up and mount it. Hope this helps. You can buy it from Bruce thats on this site. He's in service at a Cadillac dealer. But he will be at BG this weekend. Or I can take some pictures for you and you can see how easy it really is. I better get to bed, got to get up and hit the road.

Thanks, Galen. I should have check my FSM. There is a picture in the book. Have a safe trip and a good time in BG.

When adding the stabalizer bar, what benefits have you noticed? I assume better handling but curious about more specifics.

Thanks.

No, just two bolts. You use the bottom bolt that holds the lower control arm, thats what the two nuts are for. It shows that setup in the FSM. There is plenty of bolt left on the lower control arm to place the bushing bracket on with the nut.

I haven`t gotten the parts on my car yet. I ordered the parts on line at GM Parts Direct.com and it will take a few days to get to me. $131.00 including freight. I buy nearly all my part online, its way cheaper.

I ordered my bar kit 2.5 weeks ago from the shop you guys had on line. Does it always take this long for these parts or do you all think so many want them that they are getting harder to obtain? It took 4 weeks to get touch up paint! jim

Yes it takes awhile but, I figure that into the new part. I don`t need to have the part right now. Besides I have two more Cadillacs to drive if one goes down. GM Parts Direct is a chevolet dealer and has to get the part from Cadillac.

They are getting harder to obtain. My neighbor in Cary ordered one for his 2005 and it is currently on backorder. Might suggest to try Corvette part # although it might be a bit stiffer than the Cadillac. (ZO6 bar would be my next upgrade)

Here is a view that Rufcar wanted to see. http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/6826/xlrtrip021hf5.jpg Then the connection http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/1076/xlrtrip020mt9.jpg and the end link BTW I looked at a 2004 vette that came into my business today that had 2K miles on it. I crawled under the rearend and looked at the stabilizer bar. It was half the sized of mine. Little bitty thing.

Thanks Galen, Like they say a picture's worth not redoing something 3 times over!! The wife driving her car the next 2 days out of town so I plan on doing the bar on fri. My calipers turned out perfect. I used the Eastwoods Black gloss epoxy and I 1st buffed polished the letters then cleaned everything before painting. The exhaust is the next thing im thinking about. Too many other car project 1st. Thanks again Galen. Jim

If I had bought it new, and I had a lift, It would be cleaner. But I'm not anal about the underneath side. And yes it was great to meet you-all. I forgot to mention, Hahn's, the stabilizer bar and a "made in Germany" tag on it.

Galen, Put the bar on today took longer to get the lables and glue off the bar, then putting the bar on!! Whole job less than an 1hr. Went for a ride took a 35 mph snake turn road at 75 and 80 in 2nd and 3rd like nothing. I know I could easily push it through there faster but id need to be heel and toe'n it and the computer ride does not like that! Besides whats the point. I have 2 Porsches for that! Thanks for the fantastic low price improvement. Makes me wonder why they never put them on at the factory. The basic ride does not change very much! Its still a Cadillac ride and not a vette. Just handles a ton better.
Adelle said she likes the exhaust sound the way it is and since its her car and I wont upgrade it. So now, other than maintance and fixing the heat problem a little I guess I'll move on to another car project. Oh ya I almost forgot I have to playaround with that silly wind baffel. Maybe put zinc paint on the rotars too! Thanks again Jim

Man Jimbo, good job on the Calipers! I am glad you like the bar...it really makes the car more fun (funner?) to drive. My wife even noticed the difference as her comments were " the XLR doesn't sashay in the back like it used to". Aren't our wives intuitive.;) That's what makes me love her more every day.:angel

Happy Handling...

The wife fessed up to curb rash just before Rendezvous.........beware of those ankle-high drive through bank tellers curbs!

Are there any known home-remedies? I know that I can probably go to a rim dealer and have it polished out, but hate the $$$$$$$$. Has anyone had success doing it themselves?

you can use A dremmel tool and grind , buff and polish them out. I would have but with the 2 new rims I dont really care. Good Luck jim

I got a set of the 67" race ramps ( http://www.raceramps.com/store/default.asp ).
Not cheap!! But they sure work good!
Galen,,,Hope everything is going good for you! That've been cool to have you up here to help, but like you said,,, the backing out of your drive way would take longer than the time to put the bar on. If Corsa ever get it's together for the V, maybe you can help me put a set of them on.

You bet Chad. We took a cruz out with three vetts this evening along the Missouri river up to Atchison Ks. A great river road run. With dinner outside. Coming back I blew by the vetts along the flat river bottom roads. We all had two way walkie talkies and they ask what kind of pipes I had on. They said they sounded great when I flew by. Remember KY. Chad? The XLR was a hit tonight. None had ever seen one.

Which local dealer do you use??

Where are you located?? Northside Ssouthside or Beaches??

Caly lives here too.

I happen to like Indy alot (except for todays footballl game) REAL NICE people. The war memorial downtown is one of my favorites. I used to "live at the Columia club and walk around the circle to work for about a year off and on.

I am in Mandarin. Off Julington Creek Road one mile east of San Jose Blvd.

I purchased it from Nolan about 3 weeks ago. My leased 05 STS was in for service and with only a few months left I was checking out the 08 STS for lease. I told the sales rep if you get an 05 on the lot let me know....she said we just got one and the rest was history!

I have been using a mix of Nolan and Parker in St. Augustine.

Just ordered mine tonite. maybe sometime in Jan. I'll get it in and on. I spoke with parts and they have everything in stock and will ship immediately. Also got the material to paint the brake calipers, hope to get that job done this weekend. We'll see if time permits. I'll let you know when it's finished. Bill (ocool)

I cant remeber who posted, however good guide

According to the Service Manual for the XLR-V, the rear stabilizer shaft link nuts are to be tightened to 76 N-m (56 lb. ft.). The stabilizer shaft insulator clamp bolts are 65 N-m (49 lb. ft.) and the shaft insulator clamp nuts to 95 N-m (70 lb. ft.).

Good luck!

got mine installed this past weekend. Noticed a nice difference taking corners. Wonder why they didn't have this on the car? guess the bean counters were at it again. Also got the calipers painted. Used an apoxy kit for calipers, turned out great, looks like they are powder coated, and I used my dremel tool to polish the xlr on the front calipers. My car is platinum and I have the chrome corvette zo6 type spoke wheel. the red calipers look sharp. I think I'm done for now, I have the v-mesh grill and corsa exhaust. Now it not only sounds good, but really looks good too. Bill (ocool)

I just found this change elsewhere in the forum and thought this would be the best place to add the update. There is a larger diameter stabilizer bar available(same price at gmpartsdirect.com of 50.01). I do not know the difference in diameters. This would be a good place for the owners of the smaller (P/N 15806422) and larger (P/N 10339124) bars to measure and record the results. I've ordered the smaller bar but will upgrade if the size warrants it.

Cheers,

CCC

Ordered all the parts and the larger bar was on back order so I ordered the smaller one. Just installed it. I'm not sure regarding the torque on the top bolts holding the rubber gromet just bottom out so I do not know if torque comes into to play on that one.

ok, just installed mine over the weekend, the links DID NOT come with nuts so you need 6 nuts not 2. But lucky for me I had some nuts to fit and was a piece of cake to install. Does handle much better and didn't notice any difference in the ride.
