: Nav Screen

Once I turn the Nav screen on by pressing the Map button I can't figure out how to turn it off. I tried pushing the Map button again, but no result. I push the CD button and the CD plays with the Map screen still displayed. Probably operator error on my part, but the manual doesn't help either.:banghead

With the NAV screen on, push the top left soft button, which should be the "CD" if your CD is playing. If you turn on the radio (pressing the "band" button", it will be a soft button "FM1" or what ever the last radio band was on when last turned off ........

You have now replaced the NAV screen with the "band" or "CD" function and it won't show again until you press the MAP button.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. Sometimes I would like to go from the Nav screen back to the Cadillac Crest/Clock/Temp screen. Do you have to go through the steps you listed to do that?

Thanks,
Uintah

I have not found a way to get it to turn off once 'I agree' is submitted. It would be nice to be able to revert to the Crest logo instead of seeing the audio pages.

There is a way to turn the screen off however - but no logo. It is in one of the settings pages. I cannot remember exactly where since I normally just let the map scroll on down the road.

Ben.

I agree..... There are a lot of times I'd like to just get back to the screen saver, the crest logo and leave it at that. Hmmmm... Maybe something to talk about with the engineers while we're in BG,,,, just small talk you know.

One more $.02 worth. I have found that when I start the car and don't do anything with the screen, like hit the "I agree", it will go into the logo screen. So Ben don't touch any NAV buttons when you get into the car. See ya' Thursday at Arrowhead,,,, is that right? I have to check with my "social planner", darkjetitl, to see what I'm suppose to be doing next week.

If you really want to go to Screen "OFF", then do the following (p. 4-46 in owner manual):

Press the hard key above the volume knob ("Audio Adjust Key")
Press the soft button (lower center screen) for "Screen Adjust"
Press the soft button for "turn off screen" (p. 4-49)

This will have your display go to black, even with the radio playing. I found this helpful when driving long distances at night to reduce glare.

What? XLR Ken, are you saying that you actually read the directions?

Hit the button on the steering wheel for oral instructions and say "Screen Off".

Tried that, but the woman in the dash just argues with me and puts icons for Chinese restuarants on the screen. If I do it again she just says "invalid command" so I usually give up and go for some food.

.........I ordered Italian. I never got her to do what I wanted with the voice command.

In her defense, her top was down so she wasn't hearing me very well.

Have any of you had an issue with the brightness of the screen? Not too bright, but not dimmable enough? I live in a rural area and at night it is dark. Dimming the screen as far as it will go still is enough to cause glare and illuminate the ****pit. This is especially noticable after your eyes have acclimated to the dark. Another electronic step of dimming would be welcome.

I have a similar problem with one of the GPS screens in the plane. My solution is to have a piece of window tint available to put over the screen. I am thinking about getting a piece for the XLR. Would that effect the touch screen? That is one of my questions for the engineers I hope to meet this weekend.

I use these in the plane;

but they are green. I have not found a source for smoked or neutral density say about 30%. Can anyone point me in a direction?

Thanks,

Bob

I find the brightness anoying as well and either turn the screen off or return it to the cadilac crest

For window tint, go to Home Depot or Menards

If you can find a Theatrical Supply Store, you can buy a wide variety of "gels" with different spectrum and transmistivity (% light filtering). This is the stuff placed over stage lights. There are hundreds of kinds (i.e. color and neutral) and come in 20" x 20" sheets at approx $7.00 each.

On my drive from RII I fumbled with the buttons 1, 2, exit because my steering wheel was still in the exit position and what do you know. When the radio and everything shifts from 1 to 2 the driver must 'agree' once again and has to accept the disclaimer. So one way to get the crest back is to cycle between drivers (if 1 then push 2 and then 1 again.) This may prove entertaining if the seat settings differ widely but since I am the sole driver of my X they are both in the same position and it is not an issue.

Like I said I just happened on this one by accident but hey, its a solution. :rolleyes

here's a much easier way I have found to get the crest to display:
press and hold the note/0 button (just above the volume control) until the key pad displays.
then just hit the soft RTN button....there's your crest!:thumbs
